>>Wow! Nothing like letting your tourists pay for your natural disaster expenses. I must admit, I've been disapointed since Charley that there haven't been any financial insentives to travel to the area<<

Interesting...

So, you want us to offer you an incentive and discount after WE were hit by a Category 4 Hurricane, sustained much physical damage, lost over 5 weeks of business and were basically financially devastated? And no, not everyone on the island is a millionaire so this is not a sob story.

How about if your business burns to the ground, then after you rebuild at excessive cost because of an extremely high deductible, you give me a discount at 1/2 price. Or how about you offer to take a lower salary because it's your duty to do so after a natural disaster!

Sanibel has nothing to do with this tax increase. It's Lee County. And while I'm disappointed with the tax increase for the exact reason this thread exists, the 11% is still well below most Florida destinations and well below other popular destinations.

And BTW, very little of this increase is going to "natural disaster expenses." A small amount is marked for Beach re-nourishment, but that's a normal maintenance problem. The majority is going to advertising dollars and promotion of the county.

Learn about a topic before you pretend to know what you're talking about.

(Sorry to offend everyone else. But we're talking about a $2 increase for every $100 dollar. And while I know that adds up for a week or two week period, it's still only a 2% increase. But beyond the increase, I'm highly offended this person expects us to offer discounts because we were hurt by a hurricane. As if it's her right to some kind of hurricane discount! I hope this new tax scares her away from ever coming to the island again!)
