I have to agree with both of you. In our area, an 11% motel/ hotel tax is around the norm. I don't have a problem with paying the extra tax when taking a vacation - it will end up costing us around $40 for two weeks (less than the cost of a good meal).

But, I see where Joy is coming from too. After Charley, the cost of lodging on Sanibel took a big increase - something which many don't consider very tourist friendly. Especially if you've been out of business and need the tourist dollar to stay afloat.

Can't we all express our views on this message board without being slammed? You hope this new tax scares Joy away from ever coming to Sanibel again? I sincerely hope you don't own rental property with that attitude.
