Hey guys,

Just a little on the unknown actors:

29095-1/Wall Street Executive: Dan Resin (Dr. Beeper in Caddyshack)
29025-3/Wall Street Executive: Marvin Silbersher (mis-spelled as Silbisher in credits and thus everywhere else, but definitely him--look at your entry on the good Taking of Pelham 123)
29095-4/Officer Jordan: Al Fann
29095-6/mild-mannered man guilty of murder: Robert Drivas (listed as David Morten in credits)
29095-7/Advisor: Harry Bellaver (listed as "Cookie" in the credits)

The others look familiar, but I can't tell...don't know if I can handle the presence of Michael Moriarty to investigate Larry Cohen's back catalog--I know he used a lot of the same actors over and over.

Hope this might help--hate seeing the "unknown!"

For anyone interested in Blu Rays and who haven't already heard:

Sigourney Weaver has recently just completed her audio commentary tracks for all 4 ALIEN movies which are scheduled for a BluRay release in April 2010.
Also, the Lord Of The Rings trilogy are set for their BluRay debut as well in the next couple of months.....but typically - and as per usual of the money grabbing bastards who make them - we are going to be getting the THEATRICAL versions and not the EXTENDED versions. Oh, but we probably WILL get the extended versions at christmas or something.....you know how they work....extortion, extortion....

Hey there,

Just a heads up--you have the actress portraying Killian's secretary Brenda as Pauline Brailsford, when it was actually Karen Leigh Hopkins. Ms. Brailsford was about sixty at the time Running Man was filmed, and don't think she was in that film (unless she was the one of the mouthy old ladies in the studio audience).

best regards as always,

Great to see a movie with so many familiar faces like this one has being covered, but if that actor you have pictured next to Howard Da Silva's face is him, I'll eat my hat! That's actually Eddie Ryder in that photo--under his name you have a a shot of Carl Reiner.
Now if they would just release the whole three-hour shebang on DVD...makes me glad I held onto the tapes!

Subject: Taking Of Pelham 123 BLURAY Review

Author:
Lord Heath
[Edit]

Date Posted: 15:42:30 01/11/10 Mon

Just bought TAKING OF PELHAM 123 on Blu Ray.

Here are my thoughts having just seen it for the first time:

THE FILM:
I was always going to be biased here because the original is one of my top ten favourite films of all time. The first thing that struck me was how annoying the cinematographer is in the opening titles sequence. Just because you CAN do something with a camera lens doesn't mean you HAVE to. Shaky, wobbly, out of focus, scrambled....maybe that's what people want to see nowadays I don't know but to me it was irritating, annoying and off-putting.
John Travolta is no Robert Shaw, I think we can all agree on that. However in the original Shaw is quite cold and emotionless, whereas Travolta does inject quite a bit of energy and profanity into the role.
It seems the whole storyline is rushed a little bit and at times it assumes you know the original judging by the pace of the movie.
In summay I don't think this remake is rubbish, far from it, but I do believe it centres around just the two leads, wheras the 1974 version had some great background characters with Jerry Stiller, Lee Wallace, Dick O'Neill, Tom Pedi and the like....this really has nobody other than a half-decent turnout from Mayor of NYC Gandolfini.

FAVOURITE CHARACTER:
This probably wont be too popular with anyone but I'd have to give this award to actor John Turturro as "Camonetti". I think Denzel Washington is mis-cast and Travolta is just WAY over the top in this movie.

FAVOURITE SCENE:
(WARNING - SPOILERS)
There are two scenes that stood out for me...firstly when Travolta puts Washington on the spot and makes him confess to the bribe deal he took in Japan in order to save a hostage/passanger's life on the train.
Secondly the "Lithuanian ass-model in Iceland" story Travolta tells Denzel on the radio as the deadline approaches.

THE HI-DEF TRANSFER ON BLU-RAY:
Whilst not stunning, it is certainly clean and clear; in particular the outdoors shots and the above-New York-looking-down camera shots are truly spectacular. Money wise it was only £1 more expensive than the DVD so good value for money too.

BLU-RAY EXTRAS:
Exactly the same as the DVD: 2 commentary tracks, a making of, a documentary on the NYC subway system and a trailer. Not jam-packed, but good enough to keep you going!

OVERALL RATING OUT OF 5 STARS:
The Film: **
The Blu-Ray Transfer: ****
The Blu-Ray Extras: ***

All this, is of course, only MY opinion.
Feel free to disagree!

Running a forum on Jan as I do, I have researched abd checked her biographical details. She herself has recently confirmed that she is now 62. Best wishes - Simon.

Just a note for anyone interested in the BluRay release of The Wizard Of Oz.

Two versions exist: the American edition is a massive box-set, whereas the UK version, dubbed the "Singalong Edition" (for gods sake) has 2xBlus and 1xDVD.

The picture quality is definitely not a 10/10, and its age is evident (I mean the film is 70 years old!), but the restoration process documentary is very interesting.
The original Mono soundtrack or a new 5.1 is available, plus a commentary track as well.

All the features from the bumper DVD set previously released are here too, and if you have ever wondered what it is like to watch a 1910 black & white silent movie in High Definition.....LOL.......well here's your chance!!!

The Oliver Hardy 1925 edition is also included too.

My next review will be for the newly-released Gone With The Wind on BD.

Subject: New BluRays

Author:
Lord Heath
[Edit]

Date Posted: 09:37:06 11/02/09 Mon

I am writing to advise anyone interested in buying these following titles on Blu Ray....

Firstly, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937):
Excellent value for money which comes in a 3-disc set (2 BluRays and 1 DVD). The BluRay gives you an option to view in normal 4:3 frame or in "Disney View" (which is basically the same except for the sides being coloured in!) With a 7.1 uncompressed soundtrack and audio commentary, it is a great value for £20. However, I don't wish to be too critical but it is clearly a title unworthy of the format. As good (and dated) as the film is now, it is clearly not designed to be seen in "high definition" and I find it to be a bit unnecessary. But that's me. But it will have everyone scrambling to sell their previous DVD releases of the film (in the original purple box) and flood eBay with it. Where it once used to fetch £150+, you would be lucky to make a quarter of that now the film is commercially available again.

My second purchase if It's A Wonderful Life (1946). This is beautiful. The transfer to HD is very clear, and as a bonus comes with the option to watch in colour as well. Having previously been released on VHS in a "colourised" version, this is also a stunning transformation. Colouring b&w movies has really come a long way since Hal Roach Studios started tinkering around in the 80s with this idea, and I would really recommend anyone who loves this film, as I do, to consider buying the BluRay of it. Not much in the way of extras, but the picture quality for a movie 63 years old is quite impressive.

The next 2 on my list for next week are Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz (both 1939).

What makes me laugh is they can take a film like It's A Wonderful Life and turn it into a brilliant hi-def transfer and yet a film like Predator looks no better than the standard DVD release?

CON OF THE WEEK:
goes to the re-release of the BluRay "Tyson". Only recently released on the format, this interesting documentary into the life of legendary boxer Mike Tyson is being re-packaged now as a 2-disc set with 4 hours of bonus material. They should make it legal to then say ok I will now take my old copy in and exchange it for the new one.....I hate being ripped off more than anything. Yet, being a mug, you just know I will be buying the new version!

Just a quick note to say I have added to and improved Hitchcock's Jamaica Inn. One altered screenshot was made to Maureen O'Hara (mine was better quality), plus several new screenshots were added from shots I had made previously using the crappy Mill Creek Entertainment DVD, hence the poor quality.
Some of the screenshots were taken from the ITV-DVD release which is quite sharp quality, hence the stills section.
The credit rolls were a joke. I had to get the Charles Laughton credit from MC and the rest from ITV, due to a copyright issue on the DVDs.
The title card was also changed slightly in favour of a slightly better quality.

I would like to stress that this extra work was carried out in favour of "for the good of the website" and was not done with any intention to cause offence to the original contributor.

I do not make changes just for the sake of it; if I feel somebody else's work is better then there is no need to change it.

As I was responsible for this error, I felt a brief note to explain the correction was necessary.

I have decided to create a new entry on the database/website for FAMILY GUY.

I am not really a fan of the show, but I have recently been given all 7 seasons and am having a look now.

I have posted the first episode (in a very rough form I have to admit), and will keep an eye on the hits counter to see if there is likely to be any real demand for further episodes.

In other news, I have done last Sunday's episode of The Simpsons (the Halloween special) and completed my work on The Lord Of The Rings.....well, when I say "completed" I mean I have done the best I can, despite a couple of gaps here and there.

As some of you will be aware, I am currently two thirds of the way through completing The Lord Of The Rings trilogy for the site, but I have hit a snag...the software I am using to upload the screenshots is failing miserably and unpredictably and this is causing me frustration and delay.

There are approximately three actors screenshots to go on for The Two Towers plus I have altered the stills section because I was never fully happy with them).

I am eager to complete the Return Of The King a.s.a.p. so that I can move on to other things, but there may be a delay in getting this up due to the problems I am currently experiencing.

If anyone can identify some of the lesser actors or "creatures" from either of the first 2 films please don't hesitate to get in touch so we can add them to the list. I had to do quite a bit of cross-referencing to identify some of the "enemy" but the lists are not complete, as you can see. It is always my task to grab everyone on the opening credits lists, always fo the credits rolls and the stills for each film to make each movie as complete as I possibly can.

And it is always nice when I see comments or receive mails to compliment my efforts.

By the way, does anyone want to vote for their favourite installment? Mine is The Two Towers.

For anyone in the UK who wasn't already aware, the Daily Mail newspaper are giving away free copies of the DVD "The Elephant Man" starring John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins. I just picked mine up. The newspaper costs 50p but if you are able to sweet talk the cashiers at (insert supermarket chain of choice) they may give you a copy for free.

Also, I don't like to boast (double entendre deleted) but I pretty much have every film I ever wanted on DVD or BluRay - except ONE. I have several "look-outs" for me when it comes to tracing and tracking down hard-to-find movies but none of them are able to find me this one. I am very keen to pay a good deal of money for anyone who can obtain a copy for me or point me in the direction of somebody please.

We seem to have a major difference of opinion here:
The Sloth rates Chicago and The Lord rates Gangs Of New York as a superior picture over the other.

The two films went head-to-head at the 2003 Academy Awards for the Best Picture Oscar, which was won by CHICAGO. I have screencapped both films, and posted them on the main page.

Not known for my praise of all transfers onto the Blu Ray format, and especially after the last one I got (TOTAL RECALL) which was absolutley crap and devoid of any extras whatsoever....I was browsing in a store yesterday and saw HOW THE WEST WAS WON on Blu Ray.

Having never seen the movie, I was quite excited to see the incredible castlist. Aside from the fact it has the worlds most boring, predictable actor John Wayne in it, I was going to see what this was all about.

The Blu Ray comes on a 2 disc edition where you have the option to view the film in the ratio of 2.89:1 (yes you read that correctly!) or in the "SmileBox Vision", where the edges of the screen are curved to accomodate the 3-lenses used to create the enormously widescreen movie.

The transfer is incredibly beautiful, crisp, and for its age (1962) I have never seen such a wonderful transfer of a movie to this format.

So, this comes extremely recommended.

PS. I was advised, held at gunpoint and threatened with repeat viewings of Police Academy 7 by The Sloth if I didn't mention this.

Subject: RIP Patrick Swayze

Date Posted: 04:23:33 09/15/09 Tue

Just a post to acknowledge the sad passing of a wonderful, talented actor in Patrick Swayze.

In my personal opinion, I think PS was an obscure actor in the 80s, until Dirty Dancing brought him into the spotlight of fame in 1987. But it was with the release of Ghost in 1990 which awarded him stardom status, in a film which went on to worldwide acclaim and praise. As The Sloth also points out, it was the most notable movie of Whoopi Goldberg as well.

So having played the romantic hero and gained worldwide recognition, it seemed a strange career move to follow this success up with his next project: Point Break. In this movie he plays the villain, a violent bank robber hellbent on his ultimate rush - an adrenaline ride on the big waves off the coast of Australia. During the movie Swayze dared to perform his own stunts too, including the parachute jump which is seen on film - and cost him a broken leg as well in real life.

It is for this brave career decision in light of the success of Ghost, and the fact it is a great movie anyway, that I nominate POINT BREAK as my all-time favourite Patrick Sqayze movie.

Anybody else got a favourite Swayze movie? Please feel free to comment, agree, disagree or add your own.

I ran across your Janine Turner filmography and spotted a glaring omission. The show that put her on my radar to begin with is missing. Northern Exposure! That show made her a household name and was very popular for years. Also, has worked with: Rob Morrow! Hope you add this info. I love your site. Encouragement and kudos to ya!

Whilst still continuing with my new love of all things John Candy, I have gone and touched up a few new screenshots from Only The Lonely (1991) today.
I was disappointed that I didn't get Kieran Culkin, so have rectified that now, albeit with the best possible screenshot available, which isn't much to be honest - but like I keep saying - something is better than nothing at all.

Also, I have updated the credits, added stills, some screenshots and improved the title card, as well as added my own notes for Total Recall today.

This was because I was totally pissed off with keep buying Blu Ray discs which are devoid of any fu**ing extras, yet the damn discs can hold up to 50GB. OPTIMUM RELEASING I am naming and shaming you for ripping me off.

This is VERY frustrating.
a) Because I have no Internet
b) Because I realize how dependent and addicted to it I am
c) Because I realize I have no life
d) Because I realize that indulging the web site makes me happy.
e) Because the alternative is tidying up and doing chores, how dull is that?
f) dunno, but I have found a quick opportunity to post and am going to take advantage of it!

I have a few pet hates in this world...one is people who spell the word "definitely" and "separately" wrong and the other is when people wrongly refer to the 1974 movie as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". The correct annotation is "Chain Saw" as 2 separate words and not "chainsaw". The re-make is "Chainsaw", but the original 1974 version is two words. If you are in any doubt, or if you think that I am a picky bastard then check the title card.
I expect to see this rectified or else I shall come over there and smack you over the head with a wet fish.

I know I could just go into the program file and do it myself, but I prefer to judge people for their mistakes rather than help them see the errors of their ways. My motto is "you got yourself into this so you get yourself out of this." My son will tell you that I aion't kiddin' either!!!!

PS. Other niggles are people who spell the film "Robocop" wrong (it should be written "RoboCop") and there is another but I can't f***ing remember what one it is now)

Subject: New idea for site?

Author:
Lord

Date Posted: 11:29:58 08/23/09 Sun

I have been thinking about a new feature which we would include on the site. Since you have declined my suggestion of including film-related nudity scenes and the like, how about scenes involving kissing or hand-shaking between two actors?
If you read the monthly movie magazine of EMPIRE then you would have noticed this was a feature recently in EMPIRE Issue 242 (August 2009) on page 93 (section 1001 Greatest Movie Moments #864-825). So basically this is not my own idea, but rather an extension to what EMPIRE came up with. I would be happy to include all such screen moments as a separate section on the movie screenshots page.
We currently have the CREDITS and STILLS sections, we could add next to them the new section of ROMANCE (for example) and next to that you could have the MISCELLANEOUS (which provides a warning of potentially explicit material) - this could be nudity from the movie. I know there may be some who would see this as an unnecessary extra but there would also be some who may find it interesting, especially as the internet nowadays is dominated by nude or pornographic images anyway.

Why don't you set this up and I will do an example and take it from there. I will choose a movie which has both nudity and kisses between actors and update it but without adding it to the main "What's New" page. Therefore nobody else would see what movie I had used to experiment with.

If you agree to this, then I would require pretty much something like the stills section, with an option of up to 8 (or possibly more) images to be displayed, along with options for text as well.

I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to improve upon something already good to make it even better - and look at the idea for the stills section from the movies....I now see that as a compulsory thing I have to do on each movie I provide screenshots for, and I think it really makes a big difference.

Anyway, I have sent this to your e-mail address as well - just to make sure you have seen it.

Would like to know your thoughts on this, either as a reply on here or in private (ha! you sending an e-mail, ha!!! I think there is more chance of them releasing The Grren Mile on BluRay...oh wait.....that is going to be in 2 months time.....

Just a brief note regarding the TV series "Bad Girls". I have corrected 5 of the screenshots for the episode 8.1 today after I discovered that they were in fact capped from episode 8.2.
This small error was noted today when I watched both these episodes.
I only mention this fact due to the high popularity they are attracting to the viewers of this site (most of the episodes have had nearly - or over 1,000 hits).
Everything is now as it should be, along with the credit rolls which have now been put back (thanks Tony).

I am fast approaching the end now, with only 8 to go (8.11 is the last one).

Also, one final word: keep the requests coming in. I have received a number of them via e-mail and today managed to obtain and scan through Winchester '73 for somebody. I am usually able to get hold of most titles (TV or film, new and old) and I always like a challenge (thanks again, Serge & Ian).

We are looking for anyone out there who may have the UK VHS copy of the Roger Moore movie, "North Sea Hijack".
The UK video has the title card NORTH SEA HIJACK, whereas the UK DVD issue has the title FFOLKES during the credits at the beginning.
I know this for a fact because I used to have the VHS of the film before converting to DVD.

Has anyone got the title card saying "NORTH SEA HIJACK", or have you got the video and can take a still screenshot of the title with your digital camera?

We are hoping to include it on the database and we would honour you by name if you wanted to send it in to either The Sloth or myself (e-mail address provided on link), so that either one of us could upload it here.

Any takers?

It was the very first video (blimey, remember those?) I bought when I was about 13 years old and has always been one of my favourite films.

My wife Sarah and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the very kind and lovely imagery you have posted on the main page of the website, welcoming the arrival of my daughter, Emily-Madison.

My fourth child, she is my first daughter and she fulfills everything I have ever lived for.......I have always wanted a little girl. Born this morning (May 7) at 09:27 GMT and weighing 6lbs 13oz, both mother and baby are fine.

The name Emily is Sarah's idea, whereas Madison is my choice - naming her after a movie and novel I absolutely love with a passion.....The Bridges of Madison County.

Once again Tony, thankyou so much for wanting to honour me and my child in this way, I am touched, and actually quite speechless for once.

This is my JPEG vs GIF campaign...."Save the GIF"

JPEG is better picture quality, agreed....
GIF does the job 90% as good, and takes up less space....

There are no complaints about the quality of the screenshots on the website, so why the need to change over to JPEG?

I have spent too many hours capping, scratching my arse, sorting, uploading, programming, scratching my wife's arse, converting, resizing, studying, watching shit movies (Superman IV being one of them), all to devote my life and knowledge to all things Sullivan....

The change over you speak of can only be referred to as the equivalent of VHS vs DVD....DVD is superior picture quality, but VHS has a quality about it where you can still watch the damn thing even if the tape picks up a scratch!!!!

I'm sure the viewers will support the JPEG, but personally I am in favour of the GIF - for PRACTICAL purposes.

One final plug:
