OK, today I received an email critical of my flags for Country of Birth.
The scenario is this, the lady in question was born in Germany in 1943, the flag I have displayed is that associated with Nazi Germany...
My petitioner feels this is offensive.
But my question is were I to change it
what would I change it to?
Germany
E.Germany
W.Germany
to further complicate things, the exact location of her birth was the Sudetenland which had been annexed by the Nazi's at the time. It is now part of the Czech Republic.
If I change it to today's flag she becomes Czech.
Similar problems occur with ex-colonies such as Hong Kong and countries that have changed flags such as USSR.
The next wrinkle is if any of the above changes should I consider changing the nationality of someone who was born under a different flag than that with which they are associated - Is Mel Gibson American or Australian for example?
Advice welcomed, I believe in being "Pareto optimal" - Greatest Happiness to the Greatest Number - where possible.
Another complicated candidate might be Pamela Franklin, very British, but born in Japan.
should I consider multiple flags, for born, raised and lives now? (which would of course depend on one knowing that information).
Next thorny issue - should one list personal info in the mini bio's, e.g. spouse, offspring? I'm certainly not going to stoop to do gossip, he said distainfully. My thought is NO, unless to note someone is so-and-so's son or daughter perhaps.
