You're right, I made an error quoting IMDb on his birthplace. I don't see any hoax about him being dead, unless you think having an acting career that was finished decades ago a sign of a hoax.

Like many IMDb bios for minor actors, his bio there appears to be completely wrong. There is a Mark Montgomery who attended Cal State Fullerton (as the IMDb bio states) and is now a segment produce and clearance coordinator for various TV shows. There is no mention of his acting career on his LinkedIn profile, though, and the photo looks like a different person. It appears someone, whether intentionally or by accident, attached the bio to the wrong Mark Montgomery on IMDb. This is what happens when people are allowed to edit entries there without any supporting evidence. Sorry. I checked these sources, which seem more accurate:

It seems to be the issue lies more with IMDb posting unvetted garbage than this site posting something in good faith, but since IMDb is accepted as "word of God" by seemingly everyone, we'll always be on the losing end.
