 They were at one point. The reason we came out HERE is because what is out THERE can kill us. The other side of the planet, where it is usually daylight, we have another clan that grows crops year around. They trade their crops for our fish via portal spells, so we have no reason to leave and they have no reason to venture close to the water where they are. The bridges were severed in light of that- it keeps unwanted visitors away.

Tradition says that I have to introduce you to the other houses. So that they know who their future equals will be or something.... Anyway, I'll warn you ahead of time before we bump into any rivals.
