Subject: CHAMPIONSHIPS AND PREMIER COMPETITIONS

16.1.1. A competition may be entitled a �championship� only where it is an Ard-Ghr�d competition and
(a) is judged by at least three adjudicators
(b) has a maximum age limit of eight years or older
(c) has the overall result of the adjudicators determined by the current official syst�m of An Coimisi�n
(d) competitors, in the case of a stepdancing competition, are required to perform at least two dances, one of which must be a �heavy� dance and another a �light� dance.

16.2.1. The title �Pr�omhchom�rtas� (or Premier Competition) may be ascribed to a competition in any grade judged by one adjudicator, where the following conditions apply:
(a) Two dances to be performed by each competitor;
(b) In a Pr�omhchom�rtas with an upper age limit greater than eight years the dances must consist o�f a light and a heavy dance i.e.,
**(1) Reel. Slip Jig or Single Jig
**(2) Heavy Jig, Hornpipe or Set Dance;
(c) In a Pr�omhchom�rtas with an upper age limit of eight years or less the Compulsory dances must consist of either:
**(1) those stipulated for the older age groups and set out in (b) above or
** (2) In the case of Bun-Ghr�d only, two light dances, i.e. reel, light jig, slip jig or single jig.

16.2.2. Competition organisers must clearly specify in their syllabi whether the compulsory dances for a pr�omhchom�rtas is Bun-ghr�d shall consist of either:
(a) light and heavy as set out above or (b) two light dances. A choice between (a) and (b) must not be allowed in the same Pr�omhchom�rtas. This also ensures that light and heavy jigs will not be performed in the same competition.

16.3.1. Competition organisers must decide and clearly indicate in their syllabi (subject to rules 16.1.1. and 16.2.1.) in the case of any Championship or pr�omhchom�rtas whether:
(a) the same two dances must be performed by all competitors e.g. �Reel and Heavy Jig�; Slip Jig and Set Dance etc. or
(b) whether competitors will have a personal choice of light and heavy dances from those listed in rule 16.2.1.

16.3.2. In Bun-Ghr�d and T�s-Ghr�d a competitor may not perform in a Pr�omhchom�rtas a dance for which he or she has previously won first place. As well, where a dancer wins a Pr�omhchom�rtas in a particular grade he or she shall, for grading purposes be regarded as a prizewinner for each of/both the dances performed in the Pr�omhchom�rtas.

16.4.1. An Coimisi�n may permit special arrangements for World, National and Regional Championships that may not be in accordance with the Rules 16.1.1. to 16.3.1.

16.5.1. The quality of prizes awarded in craobhchom�rtais or pr�omhchom�rtais (Championships or Premier Competitions) must be higher than for ordinary competititons on the syllabus.
