The Yule log comes from the Ancient Pagan days. Keep in mind that Wicca was not fromed until the 1950's in Britian by Gerald Gardener and then when he came here to the U.S. it gained popularity in the late 50's and 60's. The Yule log was always from the mighty Oak Tree because of its power and it must have been grown & harvested by the owner for which it was for OR given as a gift. Never Ever bought. Yule ...Winter Solstice is when the Goddess gives birth to the Sun God...transition from death to rebirth. This is a huge fire festival...bonfires seen all over...prsents were hand made and delivered to neighbors, big feats were made, stories and games were played. The fire in the hearth would be put out, then a ceremony was preformed and the decorated Yule log was lit. In ancient times the log would burn and smolder for 12 days...but today the Yule log, depending on teachings, would burn for up to 12 hours, then would be set aside until the next yule. Ashes from the yule log have very powerful properties and the ahses would be used to bless feilds and gardens, Also used in homes for protection. Then when Christian came along they took the yule log and came up with their own version of the tradition. ~ Autumn Silver Sky >Autumn: > >I was reading a news article today that stated that >the Yule Log has origins in Wiccan.
