Many times, someone will say "How old are you?" and Mom will say "She's 5." Or even worse, they will talk to Mom like the child isn't even there: "How old is she?" In this instances, I find it's best to say to my daughter, "Can you tell her how old you are?" I know there's a lot of talk about "stranger danger" but children need to know that most adults can be trusted. (If they ever become separated from you in a store, they should know to look for someone with a nametag.)

I tell my daughter that it's fine to be friendly, just don't ever go anywhere without permission. To prepare your daughter for her interview, I would ask an adult friend to have a conversation with her. As long as she doesn't pick her nose or sit with her skirt pulled up so that her underwear show, she'll be fine!

Get her used to giving direct answers. And have fun! (Quit when she's had enough)
