Open to girls ages 4 to 30 from all of Maine and New Brunswick, this pageant has been held annually as part of the International Homecoming Festival since 1987. It offers girls the opportunity to compete in a fun and exciting atmosphere, gaining the experience that helps one build self-confidence. This is a fundraiser for the International Homecoming Festival. Queens will reign over the week-long festivities and take part in the Grand Parade, as well as take part in numerous community service projects throughout the year. This prestigious pageant was originally directed by the award-winning dance instructor Barbara Lara whose list of former students include Miss Maine America Arikka Knights and Miss Maine USA Ashley Marble. The entry fee is low and the experience will last a lifetime!

I am looking for a pageant for my 16 year daughter to enter this summer. I don't want to spend a ton of money on the entry fee and don't want to leave the state but will travel throughout. She has a couple of prom-type dresses already and has done three pageants. Any suggestions on something that won't cost us a lot?

UMaine’s Shannon Folsom Crowned Miss Collegiate America 2011

San Antonio Texas/Saco Maine: January 13, 2011Shannon Rae Folsom, 20, a UMaine Honor’s College sophomore and dean's list student was crowned MISS COLLEGIATE AMERICA 2011 on Saturday, January 8 at the Scottish Rite Museum in San Antonio Texas.

Ms. Folsom, who is studying kinesiology and pre-med, will receive a $10,000 college scholarship, plus a generous wardrobe and prizes totaling over $25,000 for her year of service traveling the nation promoting healthy lifestyles and the value of education.

Folsom, daughter of Ed and Lauren Folsom of Saco, is an accomplished actress and singer. She has performed in more than 20 plays and musicals, sings in three choruses, plays violin and has received many awards from baton-twirling competitions as a child.

Folsom is described by Miss Collegiate America Director Amanda Patterson and Miss Collegiate Maine state Director Deb Landry of Saco as a bright, articulate and dedicated community volunteer. "She just captivated the judges," Patterson commented.

The judges considered contestants' academic achievement, community service experience in a personal interview along with fashion and evening gown. The pageant does not have a swimsuit or talent component, according to Landry.

Folsom's extensive list of extracurricular activities includes volunteering for, mentoring and fundraising for Crossroads Youth Center in Saco, Project AWARE youth drug awareness project and Children's Miracle Network of Maine. She will be featured in a short film about childhood obesity and healthy living, based on her own experience. The movie is being produced by Crossroads, of which Landry is founder and president and directed by Karen True. Landry and Saco-area physician Christine Blake, the 2010 Mrs. Maine-America title-holder, coached Folsom in preparation for competition.

Folsom also will relinquish her Miss Collegiate Maine crown to pageant first runner-up Kristy Huff, also a University of Maine Dean's List student, from Burnham, Maine majoring in psychology.

A top 10 student at her high school, Thornton Academy, she was a member of the National Honor Society. Folsom was the recipient of 15 undergraduate awards for academic achievement, the St. Lawrence University Award for Community Commitment and the recipient of the Jeff Christenbury Award for Outstanding Community Service.

In addition to her studies at UMaine, Folsom emphasizes her commitment to working with communities and youth to promote healthy lifestyle choices to protect children from obesity and type 2 diabetes along with social awareness issues such as bullying prevention and self esteem.

Miss Collegiate America and Miss High School America represents today’s young women and has the mission to assist young women in scholarship achievement and personal growth.

Newly crowned Miss Maine USA 2011 Resigns
It is with much sadness that we announce the resignation of Emily Johnson, Miss Maine USA 2011. After careful thought and consideration, Emily made the decision to relinquish her title based on a personal family matter. Emily has done a great job representing Maine thus far, and we wish her much luck in the future. Emily will be replaced by the 1st runner-up and former Miss Maine Teen USA, 26-year-old Ashley Lynn Marble. Ashley will quickly assume the role of Miss Maine USA 2011 and will make her first appearance this coming Monday at the Maine Special Olympics Winter Games. Ashley will represent Maine at the 60th annual MISS USA® Competition which is to air on NBC. The date and location for the pageant has not yet been announced.

Central Maine Pajama Pageant

This is a new fun pageant where each contestant will leave feeling like the princess she is. The Central Maine Pajama Pageant is a 100% non-profit pageant. All money collected through raffle tickets, entry fees and door admissions (minus crown, sash and prize fees) will go to the Maine Chapter of the Pajama Program.

The Pajama Program is a nonprofit organization that donates new books and pajamas to Domestic Abuse shelters. All items were delivered to domestic abuse shelters in Central Maine. Natalie is once again going to hold her event during the month of November. This year we wanted to expand on the event and hold a fun stress free pageant. To find more information on the pajama program please visit: http://www.pajamaprogram.org/

Gene Gagne is the new executive director of Miss Maine America. This is so unfortunate. He is a former bus driver who is in his "golden years" and surely lacks pizazz.

Thanks for keeping this board informative and NICE! As usual, there's lots of bashing going on over at http://www.voy.com/217301/ It's ridiculous the amount of name calling that is allowed! Thanks again for keeping it kind here!

Taupe shoes are a necessity in interview, and they should be closed toed. Shoes that match the suit (for example black shoes with a black suit) are not acceptable. The judge's eyes should focus on the contestant's face and not drift to peek at trendy shoes.

I have been thinking of entering a pageant this summer. I am 19 and have not joined a pageant in a couple of years. I would like to test myself to see if maybe I feel confident enough to enter Miss Maine. Does anyone know of a pageant for 19 year olds in Maine this summer that won't cost too much? Thank you.
