And at first I was a little taken aback that they were out there alone, fending for themselves but then realized they would know how to handle this kind of situation even at such a young age.     • This bit was somewhat inspired by my friend Paul's stories about having to live outside of Belfast on their own as boys- he was only fourteen I think when he and his brothers were living alone in a farmhouse in the countryside. It was the only thing his parents could think of to keep their teenage boys safe, how sad is that? Once I was asking him about slang for police and he said, 'when they have a gun to your head, you call them sir.'         • We talked about that- that he just sort of shrugged it off in a way and he said at the time of course he didn't, but that he was just used to it being part of his life. He has some hair raising stories about his past, but to him it's just his life though he has expressed to me more than once how grateful they are to have peace now (well, relatively speaking).           • My church recently sponsored a benefit concert for a group that provides musical instruments and instruction to children from war-torn countries. This organization continues to work with kids in Northern Ireland, along with Bosnia and other countries. When I remember the name of it, I'll send you the link. Their mission is very interesting.   • Well... okay then... just waiting for my pulse to slow back to normal; should just take a moment or two. Whew. Well, I could never have imagined THIS scenario. We have really done a lot of study on tigers this school year (it is literally Tati's favorite animal, bar none), and I know where the remaining tigers live, and how they do indeed tolerate, if not actually prefer, the cold, so maybe it shouldn't have come as such a big surprise. Jamie, my dear, all I can think to tell you is what I told Bill Clinton about 15 years ago - you've got to keep your horse in the barn, buddy!         • I remember reading an article in Vanity Fair about his charm.
