Subject: I tell them I am voting for Obama but my vote is really no one's business but mine

At work the topic comes up between me and Amy quite often. She was actually leaning toward voting for Obama but her husband will not vote across party lines and they are registered Republicans (I think that is stupid).
I have sent her to factcheck.org and she's read all about the tax plans but she is convinced Obama will cost her and her husband the 10K tax refund they get every year (they over withhold) and raise their taxes. I don't know how much they make but apparently they fall into the category of paying more instead of less. Plus she doesn't want to "make James mad". That is a mentality I cannot relate to as I don't think it is anyone's business who you vote for, even your husband's.
I'm not convinced Obama will win in Florida but he's got my vote, mom's vote, Greg's vote and Chuck's vote. :-)

BTW, if your mom is really worried about inheritance tax -- Terry, 04:52:56 10/26/08 Sun [1]
There are ways around that. My mom and her brothers didn't pay a cent when they inherited Grandma's estate including her house in Winter Park that was paid off years ago. If that is really her only objection why not offer to see a financial planner together and discuss your options?

How does that make sense? -- Jeannine, 10:20:32 10/26/08 Sun [1]
voting for someone who is going to raise taxes, then paying someone to help you dodge them?

Isn't that what the wealthy do? -- niki, 12:41:35 10/26/08 Sun [1]
Hire the people who can get them out of paying as much of their taxes as possible?
Besides, Doni wasn't all that concerned about the taxes, but if some estate planning would calm her mom concerns then it may be worth it.
I know my mom put me on as co-owner on her accounts because she didn't want them getting tied up in probate when she dies.

but I know it seems counter-productive.

Barak Obama isn't going to raise MY taxes -- Terry, 02:58:59 10/27/08 Mon [1]
If anything they will stay the same or go down.
I'm not sure I get your point.
