Subject: I was smiling all day after Senator Clinton's win

Iron my shirt.

Screw them all, Hilary for President!

After the way she was heckled in Iowa and the reports of her "crying" (she choked up for about 2 seconds and President Dumbass cries all the goddamn time), several younger women that I work with are going to vote for her because Mr. "Iron my shirts" pissed them off with his neanderthal attitude. I though that was interesting, these women are in their late 20s and early 30s and have grown up in a time where they are treated as equals and take offense at the "women should be home, barefoot and pregnant" attitude.

I never thought that would get Senator Clinton votes but there ya go.

but I am voting for Kucinich, because he is actually visiting. And he saw a UFO.

:-)

Our primary is on the 29th and there some snit about Dems taking an oath to go elsewhere before they come here, crap I just don't follow or really understand.

I'm voting for Hillary but I fear for her safety. If she wins and becomes president, I think an asshat like "Iron my shirts!" is going to kill her. Afterwards, when asked why, he won't be able to say anything but, "I just don't like her."

I am fascinated by people (mostly men) who dislike her but cannot articulate why. I will ask if it's her foreign policy, position on domestic issues or her health care reform and the answer is always the same: "I don't know, I just don't like her."

Except that one bible thumping hateful man at work. He comes right out and says she's a woman and has no business in politics unless it's to be standing at her husband's side. But he's the only man I've spoken to who has come out and said that, the rest of them just "don't like her".

Idiots.

and has no business in politics unless it's to be standing at her husband's side" and this is not considered hate speech? Sheesh. I have to say, when I see that kind of thing I feel so angry I think my blood pressure actually goes up, but you can only rarely change a hateful, bigoted mind. Now that you mention it, I'm a bit fearful for Hilary too. B. Bhutto's assassination is still painfully fresh in my mind.

I hate that man. I really do.

Just before Christmas he was talking about attending a local event put on by the talk radio station where his son-in-law is on the air in the mornings. Every year they put on a live performance of A Christmas Carol with two of the on-air personalities reading The Gift of the Magi and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It's a family event and proceeds go to charity.

The show is opened by a very flamboyant gay man who is a writer and performer. He makes jokes about everything including his lifestyle.

John aka Mr. Hateful (oh excuse me, Pastor Hateful), was telling another salesman that children should not be allowed to attend and that he put his foot down with his daughter and told her not to bring his grandchildren ever again. He doesn't want them exposed to those "homosexuals who have no business being around children under any circumstances".

I spoke up and said, "My son is gay. His siblings are 5 years old. Are you saying they should never be around their brother?"

He said, "Yes, you are taking a huge risk especially with your youngest son. You don't know what your older boy will do to him."

I am rarely unable to speak but I was so taken aback by his comment that I just stood there. The store manager and John's boss overheard it and pulled him into an office and ripped him a new one. The manager, Joe, told me privately that he dispises John and his "homo hating women hating bible thumping attitude".

I didn't get an apology but he was warned and is very careful to watch his mouth around me now. Which is fine by me because next time I will not be struck dumb, I will rip him a new asshole.

But we work in a very open area and I cannot help but overhear him talking about Hillary Clinton. Or Martha Stewart (he calls her THE CRIMINAL).

I did tell one of his fellow salesmen that if I am wrong and there is a God, I take comfort in the fact that John will go straight to hell when he dies. I know for a fact my comment was repeated and he knows what I said.

Just think: Today he will be preaching the word of the Lord at his church. I would never let him near my children and I suspect he beats his wife but he is a man of God. Just ask him, he'll tell you. Repeatedly.

[> [> [> [> Well, I can give you my reasons -- HF, 18:37:51 01/12/08 Sat [1]

1. She had a chance to get us universal health care and she got so caught up in the power of the situation that she ruined the only legitimate shot we ever had at insuring this country.

2. She was so cold when her husband was in the White House. My girlfriend worked for the DNC for a couple of years and we always were invited to the annual WH Carnival on the lawn. Mr. Clinton was so friendly, but she looked exceptionally uncomfortable. The bf notes that this was around the Monica Era and Hillary was probably uncomfortable because the thought of holding her husband's hand made her want to ralph, which is entirely possible but it alienated me nonetheless.

3. I saw Obama speak in person when I first moved to Denver in August of 2008. He was stumping for our clownish Senator Ken Salazar and he was one of the most inspiring and articulate people I've ever seen.

You have reasons and you can articulate them.

You are, unfortunately, in the minority. The majority of Hillary haters can't or won't say why they hate her, they just do.

That being said, I don't have a problem with the president being unemotional or "cold". And I have always respected Hillary Clinton, even during the Lewinsky affair. I could not have put my personal feelings aside in that situation the way she obviously did.

I have listened to Obama but have not had the chance to see him in person. I don't dislike his politics but I don't think the hateful rednecks in this country are any more ready for a black man in the white house than they are ready for a woman. Either of these brilliant people will be targeted for who they are if they are elected.

It is a sad state of affairs but it is what we are - a nation of bigots and misogynists.

Lesson learned: don't type when you have a few glasses of wine in you.

1. My girlfriend worked for the DCCC, not the DNC.

2. We moved in 2004, not 2008.

Sadly, I agree that there are still too many bigots and misogynists. The only thing we can do is to stay aware and to stay active. It doesn't have to be this way forever.

Dem. Convention on TV back during John Kerry's run, this man was speaking and he was incredible. I'd never heard of him before. Who is this Barack Obama? Why isn't he running for president??? I'd vote for him. Well, now he is! I am not one to be inspired by a politician at all, but I never forgot how his speech made me feel. It moved me.

[> [> [> [> There's a really good article.. -- SB, 11:09:27 01/23/08 Wed [1]

that explains what happened in Florida that I read recently because I couldn't understand why the hell we were having it so early if it was against DNC rules. I'll try and find it for you. Basically your vote in the primary won't mean a hill of beans because the national democratic party will not send any delegates because our Florida democratic party ignored the date rules. (well, they tried to get that date changed, but our republican controlled legislature wasn't having it).

Coming from a long line of bigots in my family....I would have to agree with you about a lot of Floridians. There's no way Barack or Hillary will win in Florida in the general election. They will in Palm Beach County but I don't believe anywhere else.
