] Date Posted: 20:21:28 10/27/07 Sat "If you plant an apple seed, and it grows, you will grow an apple tree 100% of the time!", he said. I was listening to this very wise man talk about life, and the natural order of things, and how true the old saying 'you reap what you sew' is. He was really talking about how the world works, plants and animals producing after their own kind. But I began to think about my children, as I so often do, and it occured to me that the same applies to them. It seems in our society these days, we've planted so many things that we didn't really want to reap! Violence abounds, hate crimes increase, vandalism and all manner of dreadful products of our fast paced, selfish world are rampant. We do tend to be, after all, products of our environment. With these two thoughts in mind, I jotted down a list of things I'd like to 'plant' in my childrens hearts and minds and lives. Above all else, I want them to love well. I have spent their lives to this point planting, watering, and watching their own love grow. It's been, thus far, a successful yield. There are so many things I would like to see my children cultivate in their lives. Joy, laughter, peace, contentment, openness, empathy, hope, optimism, and the list goes on. It stands to reason then, that the natural order of things would dictate that I 'plant' those things in their lives now... by way of example and teaching. So... I am resolved to do some Autumn planting around here... investing in a far more valuable harvest than any summer garden could ever produce. It can't hurt, and perhaps it'll mean a few more loving people in this world. Oh, and just as another beautiful twist to this little story... the very wise man was my father, who (along with my mother) has been the biggest influence of all good things in my life. And without whom, I'd surely be a lesser person. I am blessed, indeed. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 06:14:32 10/28/07 Sun ((Shalah)) A wonderful harvest comes of fertile ground as well, and if you cultivate the ground so richly, how can you not bear the fruit of such love!? I agree, the things we "plant" are what we receive in the harvest. The point I was trying to drive home to my ex, in all the chaos surrounding my own son. He stated to me, "You don't know anything, you're not here and no one spends more time with him." At first, I was insulted by that, and then I thought about it, and it is exactly the thoughts you've presented here. I thought, yeah, you spend all that time with him doing what...just sitting idle, teaching him nothing about becoming a man, just sit there and let the world hand you things, because God forbid you take life into your own hands and be responsible and have some foresight. You are absolutely right...he is reaping what he sowed. These were not the things I instilled (planted) in my son, and hopefully, my son through this mess, will recall those times and begin to thrive. Very thought provoking read this morning, and much needed. Thank you! Your sons will benefit the bounty of such a planting season from such a wonderful and loving mom. Big hugs and much love, Tammy |

Date Posted: 06:34:47 10/31/07 Wed Tammy, I am glad this touched a familiar spot for you. It's a hard thing to see others planting weeds in the gardens of our children's lives! I'm sorry you've had that to deal with, but I have faith in your gardening skills... just get in there and do the weeding! *huge hugs* ~Shae |
