Here is a great website to keep track of your running, biking and swimming and its free. I've kept a log since I started running, biking and now swimming. So far I have ran 2,311.51 miles, biked 695 miles and swam 15 laps. Its very motivating to keep track of what you've accomplished.

We will be running tonight at 5 if weather permits.

Jackie, Pam and I had a great run this morning!. The weather was perfect for a run! We ran 5 miles. We are running tomorrow morning at 9 am. We will also be running our usual runs on Mon., Weds. and Thurs. at 5. If anything changes I will post it on the website and send out an email.

If we have any new members or old members who want to run but do not want to run 5 miles don't be afraid to join us. We will run a short run with those who want a shorter run. Then we will continue the run for a longer run for those who want to run longer.

So come out and enjoy the weather and run with us!

Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Amy for completing her first half marathon!
Congratulations to Crystal for running and completing her first half marathon without an injury!
Congratulations to Mary and Jackie for running the half!
Congratulations to Jill for completing her second full marathon and Heather for completing her third full marathon!
Congratulations to Andrea for being a volunteer and giving directions to runners during the marathon! Volunteers are invaluable at the marathon. They keep you motivated and help push you through the difficult miles.

The marathon was awesome! The course was spectacular and the crowds and volunteers were awesome! I would recommend this marathon to everyone. The scenery for the full was beautiful. We went through some beautiful neighborhoods, ran by the ocean and saw the boats in the harbor, the cruise ships, and South Beach. It rates up there with the Columbus marathon. The weather was great! We had a great time!

Lesson learned this marathon: Always train before you attempt to run a marathon. It makes it a whole lot easier.

Hey Everyone...What time would you prefer the meeting to be? The last meeting was held at 6 pm. If you have a preference or a number of you cannot make it at 5:30, and you tell me about it, we will begin at 6 pm. I will wait till Tuesday to send out the time. Please email me if it matters to you.

Below is a tentative agenda...please email me if you want to include ANYTHING else at all. Remember, we will try to get almost all the meeting done within the first 40 minutes or less, so if you cannot stay you will have been there for the vip stuff.

Also, Jill, can you bring our total money amt so we can record this monthly in our minutes. Is there a volunteer who would type the minutes on a laptop as we do the mtng? They can be revised to make sense later. Let me know, I can bring mine. Otherwise, Mary can you write stuff by hand?

Review of Club Motto:When you have given your best ( and this may simply mean coming to the meeting this month!) you have won your race!

Service to Club is the Theme for 2009: Encouragement, Fun, History, Improvement, Support, Input, Protection, Get members, Grow our club in many ways.

1. Incorporation (Jill and Mary) This is a vip topic!

2. Forum, can you get on...have you posted yet?

3. Valentine's Day, April Fools Day, Jingle Bells Run: You choose and support the one you believe the club should support for a trial balloon kind of run. In other words, we may use this as invitation only (read liability) or if we get incorporated, set up our first 4 Life Run/Walk. This should fit in schedule with anchor runs & fun runs. Don't forget...try to be a salesman...we need the one that is best...

4. Assign responsibility for fun runs to pairs or groups. How many? Fun runs could include the relays like Peggy suggested for the pig? These should fit with the anchor runs and 4 Life supported run to fill out a schedule which is NOT too crowded. By the way would someone volunteer to bring a calendar we can pass out to everyone?

5. Business cards: (Peggy and Susan)

6. Birthday for Tony (we'll pass a card around...need volunteer for a cake, prepare to sing... and get ready for your turn)

7. Anchor Runs (runs supported by at least 4 members) Rue has suggested one: Run By the River; others suggestions: Susan Komen, Athens, Pig

8. Photos and prices (Jackie)

9. How do you want to serve? Are you happy and you know it? Or...would you like to try something different?
Currently: Rue and Henry are Public Relations Coordinators, Tony is Race Coordinator, Jill is Treasurer, Mary is Secretary and also Hostess big time, Coaches are Peggy and Pam, pres, Karen, V President Jackie, Historian...unofficially, Jackie has done this all year with her photos and constant recordkeeping of the year! anything inaccurate...lemme know! thanks...

10. Super Pats and how to use funds to grow the fun and encouragement in the club.

11. Cookouts connect us, can these fit with the fun runs or anchor runs? (Henry)

12. Mentoring and Personal contacts (group ideas and progress)

Thanks everyone for all the work to make our club soooooooooo good 4Life.

Jackie, Pam and I ran this morning. It was half snowing and half sleeting. The temp was around 30 and felt good. We had to be careful because the sidewalks were icy and slick in spots but we were able to get in a couple of miles. It was a very refreshing run! I love the snow!

If anyone is tired of running and needs a change of pace this is great ski weather. I think I will go to Perfect North in Indiana tomorrow afternoon! Give me a buzz if you want to go!

Dont forget the meeting Thursday night at 5:30 at Appleby's.

Jill, Peggy and I ran Saturday at 9 Am. We started out ok , but about 1 mile into it figured out the wind was strong and cold that it just about cut threw our cloths. I had three layers (about 10 lbs it felt like)on,while Peggy had a thin pair pants(not her shorts) and long sleeve shirt,Jill about the same .At 2 miles I was ready to turn back, but we pushed on. I am glad we got our 5 miles in,and that we are 4 LIFE RUNNERS.

4 Lifers: Can you spare 5 seconds...if so, look at Questions # 6 and # 7 below, part of a quiz I took from Prevention.com (awesome site, by the way).
Then, consider the following for a resolution which will surely help you live longer...maybe even to 100!
New Year's Resolution: I will be an active and supportive member of the 4 Life Running Club, thereby potentially adding 8 years to my life!

Will You Live to 100? Check out Questions #6 & 7....
1
The thinner you are, the longer you'll live.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: Underweight people have shorter life spans than their in-shape peers, as do people who are obese. Older women with just a few extra pounds are actually protected against age-related health conditions. The bottom line: Maintain a healthy BMI. Calculate yours

2
Sleeping at least 8 hours a night can add several years to your life.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: People who sleep five to seven hours a night have better survival rates than those who sleep 8 or more, or 4 or less, according to a study from the University of California, San Diego. Too much snoozing could be a sign of depression or other health issues. Learn how sleep affects your memory.

3
Early retirement will protect you from life-shortening job stress.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: Keeping busy may be the key to living longer: One study found that people who retired at age 65 outlived coworkers who retired at 55.

4
People who eat candy live longer than those who don't.
Your Response : FALSE

Incorrect: A Harvard study found that people who indulged in sweets a few times a month -- including dark chocolate with heart-healthy polyphenols-- lived about 11 months longer than abstainers.

5
Giving up meat and animal protein will increase your lifespan.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: Don't ditch low-fat dairy or fish rich in omega-3s: In a German study comparing vegetarians, vegans (who eat no dairy or eggs), and moderate vegetarians (who eat fish), the moderates lived longest -- and vegans the shortest.

6
Running is harder on your body than walking and will shorten your lifespan.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: People who exercise moderately (as in, a 30-minute walk) 5 days a week live 1.5 years longer than non-movers, according to a 2005 Dutch study. But running that same half-hour tacks almost 4 more years onto your lifespan.

7
Volunteering for the bake sale, the book club and a charity race will help you live longer.
Your Response : TRUE

Correct: Engaging in social, productive activities, such as the church bake sale or the local running club, can add four years to your life, according to researchers from Harvard.

8
Your single girlfriends, with their incessant yoga and Pilates, will live longer than you.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: Married women live about four years longer than singles, according to a 1995 study from the University of Chicago. A happy, supportive relationship can improve both financial and mental wellbeing, researchers say.

9
The best way to stave off the negative effects of aging is to dread getting older.
Your Response : FALSE

Correct: Adults with positive self-perceptions of aging live almost 8 years longer than those with bad attitudes, according to research from Yale.

10
Driving a black car ups your risk of getting into a potentially life-threatening accident.
Your Response : TRUE

Correct: Black cars are almost four times more likely to be involved in an accident than silver cars, which are the safest, according to research from New Zealand that analyzed 1,000 accident reports.
