Hi Robin,

Funny you should mention that today... I've finally got a trainer lined up (been planning on this guy for AWHILE but he's finally got his business up and going) and my whole plan was to bring a mature adult with no PP type training to speak of and no prey drive developed other than what she was born with (not a whole lot)and to see how she tests. Once the trainer and I have tested her and see what kind of dog we've got we'll go from there but I'll be sure to keep you updated. I'm trying to figure out how I can get at least photos of her testing and hopefully I can at least line that bit up for ya'll.

My theory is that if BB's are to be defensive as you mention above then you should be able to count on them in a testing situation w/ decoy etc... and still rely on them to be good in public. Hermionee is the girl and she's been socialized like crazy and in fact on one occasion rose to the event when a Rott did come after us, so to speak. In her view he was indeed threatening us and she acted. She is not generally dog aggressive and while she's not going to be best buds with a new dog and will likely posture etc... She's totally under control and docile in public.

I think the key is to make it clear that not EVERYTHING is a threat but that she can rely on her instinct when there IS a threat...that'd include correcting for aggression out of the correct context and praising for work on the training feild etc. That's why I'm working with a Police Dog trainer because he knows and understands the value of a dog who can be save in public etc...but still do the job right when needed.

Looking forward to more dialog on the subject!

Hermionee is out of my litter of Askari and Riot (Afrika's Riot)... Sam's Kabuki is also out of that litter... ;0)

Sara
