Subject: comments on Acquisitional Pragmatics

The presentation is amazing. That is what I call first class work. Couldn't have done it better myself. The illustrations were really connected to the idea of the slide, and for sure they helped you to improve what you have said.

I really liked the sentences that you used to introduce it. They summarize the main ideas of the text.

I totally agree with this one: Second language acquisition is indeed ¡
'second culture acquisition' As I already said in the other group presentation Cross-cultural pragmatics that is really linked to this one, to learn and teach language is more than paying attention to vocabulary and grammar rules. It's crucial to understand, or at least try to respect the other culture beliefs, values and norms. Without this is a quite difficult job to acquire a second language. ('Transcend the boundaries between his/her ego in order to acquire the target language')

When you say in "less academics words" (this sounds like you Carol :) it's very difficult for learners to read between the lines, to infer, to understand the difference between what the speaker is saying and what he really means; another reason why students must be aware of the differences between L1 and L2 to acquire pragmatic competence.

The text and the ppt end up well when they say that "learning occurs through situated, moment-by-moment interaction between the learner and the surrounding environment, and not wholly in the mind of the learner". In "less academic words" learning involves interaction, guidance, and it's extremely important to try to be aware of the differences between the languages in order to be a competent speaker.
