CROSS- CULTURAL PRAGMATICS

This text is very interesting. It talks about a crucial issue. It corroborates that to teach and learn a second language goes beyond the grammar rules, vocabulary, read and write properly.

We need to be aware that different cultures have different points of view and then different behaviors. These differences, for sure may lead to misunderstandings in conversations in relevant domains as social, education and workplace as you exemplified very well.

The examples of incidents that could happen with men from other cultures teaching in US and adopting negative attitudes towards women makes us, as teachers, reflect upon our roles inside the class. This kind of situation may lead to negative feelings as demotivation and high anxiety. The students wouldn’t feel comfortable and this probably would affect their learning process. It’s something that we should keep in mind in order to avoid not only cultural incidents but also create barriers to their development.

I totally agree when the text says “… it’s not only the powerless who must acquire the norms of the powerful”. It’s not only the dominant group who has more status, or has a better economy that deserves respect. Their values and norms aren’t better than the others. They are different.

“Cross-cultural pragmatics needs to be used to stimulate a two-way understanding.” Sometimes we need to think about the other people way of life, way of thinking, if we want to interact. Both sides needs to consider the other’s principles if they want to avoid misinterpretations.

For the purpose of successful communication we need to take into consideration the CCP differences. It’s crucial to consider that it’s not a matter of which language or behavior is right or wrong. It’s a matter of been appropriate or not. Be aware and respect the differences.
“Understanding these differences open doors (…) for all of us.
I really believe that you were able to summarize and talk about the main points that are discussed in the text. Your text is clear, organized and very explanative.

Well done.
