Subject: MJ brings up a subject I think would make a good topic of discussion. I have often read of concerns that DJE should be in projects that "do him justice" or that we feel are "worthy of him." But what are they? What projects fit that criteria? Remember that David is the one choosing these roles, so shouldn't we have a little faith in his ability to choose what's best for him?

We don't know what roles he's offered, be it a drama, sitcom, movie, etc. I've read that people think that he doesn't fit the Hollywood mold or that Hollywood doesn't acknowledge his talent, but what if he's been making the choices, not the other way around? He is obviously being offered plenty of work, but he also has a family. We've read that he prefers to be with his family and may not take roles that require him to spend too much time from home. How does that factor into the types of roles he chooses?

I'd love to know what the fans think are a good fit, or what his considered beneath his talent. I see alot of people wanting to fit him into a box - something that's been done already. Why not think outside the box and come up with an idea that is original? I don't want to see him in a movie or TV role that's been there, done that. Wouldn't that be boring? Wouldn't we wind up comparing his performance to that of the original actor(s) and set ourselves up for disappointment? I think this is where we get into trouble.

So I have a couple of questions to ask:

Given his talent, what type of roles do you think would make him shine? Drama? Romance? Comedy? Theater? And no giving examples of movies/shows that are already airing/have aired.

And what do you think is "beneath him" and why?

We know he's talented - he is one of the fortunate actors who as never wanted for work for most of his career - so are we giving him enough credit to know that he's capable of choosing the right roles for himself?

I'd love to hear your comments and suggestions.

[> I think he has the ability to all the genres that you have listed, but I would love to see him do live theatre. I think he would have such a commanding presence on stage, enough to be able to make you believe you were where ever the scene is set. -- Katiegirl, 15:54:51 04/26/09 Sun [1]

[> DJE is an exceptionallly handsome man and I think roles/characters that need/use this quality/gift of his suit him best, NOT to use it in a gratuitious way, but in a way that build into the strength of the characterization. So, roles like the strong hero, or the romantic lead, the debonair scoundrel, the 'dreamboat' in a romantic comedy. So, it looks like DJE has already recognized what roles he is best suited for because he's done them all! BUT....inside -- mj, 03:12:16 04/27/09 Mon [1]

I would love to see him in a light-hearted comedy about an aging gorgeous rock-star and what his life is like for him now. This would really enable him to explore, stretch, and exhibit his natural touch for comedy AND his guitar-playing. I can just see the many scenes playing out, too, on all the antics he and his 'life' offers up with a world of hormonal groupies who still see him as the 70's rock-'god' he was AND as he, too, sometimes is guilty of still seeing himself. In the end, though (in the show), he has a VERY stable and loving marriage, family, and life which, ironically is more conventional than that of his followers and fans. I think a show like this could really portray some of the madness, irony, misconceptions, and truth about our celebrity-mad culture and poke fun at it in a good way and really be quite endearing, enlightening, and thought-provoking while giving DJE an opportunity to offer up what I think could be a great performance that he would enjoy.
Also, I would like to see him in a character like (sorry -- can't help but make a reference) the male lead in 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir'. This was one of the most romantic and original movies and TV shows and a childhood favorite!

[> [> Oh, and I would also like to see him in something with Kevin James ('King of Queens). I think pairing these two actors together in something (haven't a clue what, but, of course, it would be a comedy) would be dynamite and a real crowd pleaser. -- mj, 03:14:28 04/27/09 Mon [1]

DJE is a wonderful actor, he's very intelligent with all the roles and does a wonderful job and he such a good man. He's not perfectly man. We were just dreaming what other projects will be, I know that DJE just want to make for himself to do with movies, dramas, sitcom. When he get more time with it, I can understand that he just wanted to take some time offs and spend the time with his family very importantly. I know that DJE doesn't want to go back with "JAG" 10 years of series because he got so tired though. I just hope DJE can do what he wants to do for himself and keep him in my prayers. I know that DJE is very handsome man, what he going to get older of 70's or 80's do you think he will be handsome???? LOL Just like other actors or actress in their lives like Tom Selleck who is about 65 years old, but handsome hummmm!! Or Richard Chamberlain is about 70 or 75 years old. Still love DJE with all of his age of live is wonderful. I'm not worship to DJE but I think he is very honorable man.

[> [> I mean we should not having a big faith in his ability to choose what best for him....... we just hope and have a little faith as much he can do what best for him. Only thing we have to pray for him is an answer. -- Liz, 12:03:02 04/27/09 Mon [1]

[> for the experience of it, I would love to see him in a theatre production. The selfish side of me wants him back on regular series TV (which he recently said that he would do again). In what role....hummmm..... that is hard to do without using examples.......but I think something that gave him the space to show his dramatic side, as well as the light comedy side.............maybe with some 'pace' to it as well. As for what is 'beneath' him.....I am not sure I am qualified to make that call. I guess for me, as long as HE is good with it, then so am I. Now, that doesn't mean that I am going to love each and every role that he does, but I can respect his decision to do it. -- spudz, 16:37:53 04/27/09 Mon [1]

[> I like to see him in Drama and Comedy, i think after his 10yr slog on JAG, working ungodly hours a day, has put him off of another series, [keeps him away from his family for to long. As for the theatre, for purely selfish reasons i wouldn't like for him to do that [ unless of course he came to England?] -- Michelle UK, 19:58:05 04/29/09 Wed [1]

[> I guess I"m one of the few who liked him in Knights. I thought there was some potential there for a really great character if given the chance. Righ tnow, I'll take him anyway I can get him, just to be able to see something new!. -- nancyeddy, 01:00:21 04/30/09 Thu [1]

[> I'd like to see him do a romantic comedy, don't ask me what kind, because I don't know. LOL I have seen David in a theater performance of Oklahoma! when he was young and he did a really good job, so I'd love to see him try his hand at theater again; not necessarily in a musical but any theatrical performance would suit me. -- Barbie, 16:48:16 04/30/09 Thu [1]

[> Gee Barbie, I should have posted my comments, here, the other day, shouldnt I? These are my personal preferences and we all have them, this is just me. First, he's a man with a life and a family, it goes without saying that they should be considered first. I'd just lke to see him in a role similar to Jimmy Conlon, Terry Evenshen, someone who is' real,' a few flaws, but generally a good man, with lots of history to learn about in his back ground, through out the season, if its a series. (Thats what was so frustrating about Jimmmy Conlon, we didnt get a chance to know him). I want a hero, or at least someone to look up to, someone courageous, the kindest and best of men.....hmmm...that wouldnt hurt my feelings but then we'd be back to Harm, (heavy sigh,) and he doesnt weant to go there.(sorry, I had to put that in, I couldnt help myself) BUT SERIOUSLY, he could portray any 'unsung' hero in or out of uniform and I'd believe it. -- mkim, 12:17:23 05/02/09 Sat [1]

[> I would love it if he did live theater. I think he would have great stage presence. I think his comedic timing in "Code Blue" (Jag) was fantastic and would love to see him do more comedy, although not slapstick kind. I think he would do very well in the kind of movies that Cary Grant did. -- Joan D, 17:42:31 05/05/09 Tue [1]
