Schaumburg is actually not Chicago it is just a suburb. Not much goes on there besides a mall. It is about 45 minutes away from the sight seeing places in the city. You are honestly closer to a corn felid than you are to the city. Unless you want to take an Uber or the trains into the city I wouldn't worry about ICE. We have had multiple Oireachtas' at the convention center that have all been safe and well organized. I would worry more about finding activities to do during the week than anything. You will be bored.
