Date Posted: 08:10:11 09/28/09 Mon Dear all, This message brings you the directions for theonline English Morphology Seminar. The online seminar is not based on a presentation of topics, but rather on the productive multiplication of learning experiences. We call it a seminar in evocation of the meanings entailed by related listemes such as "seminal" and "insemination", both of which associate with metaphorical meanings of fertility, innovation, and production. For this seminar, each one of you have to choose a text fragment (fictional or journalistic prose, preferably) of 400 words in length for analysis. Your chosen text is to be posted in this website, which allows visitors to both post messages and respond to other's postings. As soon as a collection of original fragment postings is formed, every single studente should then pick up one of the submitted texts that is different from their own, and proceed as they have in the tasksheet we worked with last class. In other words, you are supposed to proceed with a detailed morphological analysis of listemes that reveal occurrences of the morphological processes thus far discussed in our course. People must then post their analysis. In this seminar, it is the duty of the original proponent of the analyzed texts to provide feedback to the analysis of his or her particular proposed text. In other words, on choosing your text fragment you should also be ready to provide your own analysis of the listemes it contains. The deadline for all activities of the online seminar is next Friday, October 2nd, at midnight. Keep in mind that online seminars are part of the formal system for evaluation of your academic performance in this course. Also, this online seminar is also a review exercise for the upcoming examination. Part of the review class prior to the exame session will be dedicated to my comments and observations of occurrences in the online seminar.
