Newborn life replacing all of us Changing this fable we live in No longer needed here So where do we go? Will you take a journey tonight... Follow me past the walls of death? But girl, what if there is no eternal life? ________________________________________________ The sleek Challenger rolled into the lot, the 426 Hemi growling menacingly. The car almost seemed to protest being required to stop...it seemed all those horses just wanted to run free. That was part of the allure of the old classic for Sphinx--all that barely restrained power, all available with the simple press of a pedal. There was no greater sound in the world than the wide open throttle on Mopar muscle, in his book. Well...except for maybe the sound of Sha's voice. He killed the growling engine, turning to look at his boy. The ride had been mostly comfortably silent, both of them deep in their own thoughts it had seemed. He hadn't questioned the boy on last night's sudden demand for his car, nor the events that had followed. Nor had he questioned him on the stiffened way in which he'd walked. Those questions were coming now, though--he'd give up the black beauty for his boy, but not without a little bit of background. "Funny thing, you know. My car got jacked not once, but twice yesterday." He smirked. El hadn't technically jacked the auto, considering he'd handed the keys...but the principle was close. "I know the cause for the first one. On why you needed it last night, I ain't got the foggiest." He didn't ask for an explanation, but his tone sure indicated that one would be appreciated. He might be an asshole, but he was still the boy's father--and a father had a right to worry, right? |
