I am all for health test don't get me wrong, but I like to put more emphasis on the dogs capabilities first. Yes health of my animals is one of my top priorities but I have to keep it in prospective. I test heart std hips and elbows. I know that health test of the breeding animals is important IMO more weight should be put on the test of the offspring. For my program that is more of a telling sign.

When I first came to these message boards I told people about my breeding between Pluto and Greit many people came down hard on me for having a litter prior to having the proper health test. So I went out and got Pluto hips X rayed immediately they came back good just like I expected because I bought him know that he came from 4 generations of having great hips.

Meanwhile I kept on catching the flack like I could take back the breeding. I think that you may catch more flack for breeding without testing rather than testing getting bad results and breeding anyhow.

For me the xrays are not worth the $400.00 and its a great way to line your vets pockets.

Also a appraisal score is not the be all end all for breeding either. For example my bitch Greit was almost dq. Yup Anne Marie and I argued about the tightness of Greit lips. I ran my fingers across her mouth and showed her see nice and tight. She changed the one point from fault to correct and my bitch made a 75.2 She came over to me and said if she had her tape measure Greit would have failed. She told me not to breed her again. I looked at her with that look and said all kind of curse words in my mind.

This dog bred me great dog after great dog. Damn that 75.2 she produces what I think are great tribute to the boerboel breed.

Now that being said the appraisal does have its place. That is why I will continue to have my dogs appraised .It is a "boerboel experts" opinion. I do like the idea of people with good knowledge of the breed having a look at your dogs and breaking him/her down point for point. also I believe that it is a good idea to have some types of check and balances in the prior to breeding. The appraisal keeps people from just having puppies without first conforming to the standard.

The idea of having any kind of test proving your dog prior to breeding is a great idea.
