Does the dress matter? -- what do you think?, 07:10:49 08/27/12 Mon
Do you think, in open platform competitions, that the dress matters? Obviously the dress needs to fit and be presentable, but does it matter if it's not up to date?
This forum is amazing. The moderators delete anything bad (even if it takes a bit). This board is always cleaned. Just look at other forums! -- You will see how different this one is.- op dancer, 15:56:27 08/12/13 Mon

Open Platform & Independent Opportunities Website -- Ashley Irish Dances, 17:08:53 08/31/12 Fri
I'm working on a website that will list all North American open platform opportunities as well as OP and independent schools.
I need all hands on deck to let me know about Independent Irish dance schools in your area. Website links are the best. I think I have northern/central Illinois and Minnesota covered, but...um, North America is a little bigger than that. Help!

Open Platform Organizations and Options -- Marilyn, 16:13:40 04/11/12 Wed
The long and the short is that Open Platform organizations operate over a wide spectrum. Each Open Platform organization differs slightly. However, in order to be listed on this website as “Open Platform” each organization must be known to offer at least one Open Platform activity per year, or encourage its members to participate in other Open Platform Feiseanna and Events from other organizations. You will find that the majority of organizations listed in this website encourage their members to participate in a wide array of other Irish dance, cultural, language, training activities, etc. believing that multiple organizations compliments the work of each other.
Read each organization's website information carefully. If in doubt, use the organization's “contact info” to pose your query to someone within that organization. My experience is such that Open Platform organizations are very responsive and will quickly reply to your questions. It is each individual's responsibility to know the rules of the organization with which he/she is a member.
Irish Dancing schools and/or teachers will often align themselves or be members of an Irish Dancing Association or Federation. These organizations operate as governing bodies with constitutions and have in many cases, set instructional curriculum and competition (feis) rules. There are many different organizations and they have been listed according to the degree in which they offer and participate or encourage participation in Open Platform Feiseanna and Events. Please note that ALL Open Platform organizations retain the right to refuse entry to any school/dancer who has exhibited poor behaviour at past feiseanna. Remember, “When visiting another organization or school, you are a guest in their space, and your behaviour needs to reflect that.” The info following their name briefly describes their organization, gives a current contact name/web page and attempts to explain their interaction in the Open Platform scene.

CALL FOR DANCERS - Participate in an exciting new study on IRISH DANCING!! -- Erin Hayes, 11:19:50 06/11/12 Mon
PLEASE INVITE AND SHARE THIS WITH ANYONE YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED!! I NEED 20 IRISH DANCERS age 16+
RESEARCH TAKING PLACE IN LONDON JUNE-JULY 2012
You are invited to participate in a thesis study for Trinity Laban that involves the investigation of the landing mechanics of Irish dancers. The study will be taking place in June-July 2012 in Kingston upon Thames (KT1 1LQ) London. Interested dancers must be age 16+ and currently training for a national event (ie the British Nationals) or performing with a professional show. If you fit this description and want more info, please email Erin at email@example.com
Objectives: This study aims to identify the landing strategies used by Irish dancers when landing from large leaps. These landing strategies differ from other styles of dance. It is these differences that make us unique as Irish dancers but potentially susceptible to different injuries. The objective of this study is to calculate the lower leg mechanics to assess the injury potential and compare the landing to other dance styles. 3D motion capture and force plate technology will be used to analyze your movements and then they will be compared to other dance styles and assessed for injury potential.
Expected Benefits: You will gain knowledge in the field of Dance Science and Biomechanics. You will learn about 3D motion capture and your own personal technique. You will have access to all of your own data and VIDEO for personal reference to enhance your dance training and potentially prevent future injuries. Irish dancing is an understudied area of Dance Science. This study will contribute to the knowledge of Irish dancing and the landing mechanics of dancers. You will be partaking in a new and exciting study using the latest technology. Thank you for donating your time and talent to contribute to the field of Dance Science for Irish dancers by Irish Dancers!
Sunday 21st April TARA DANCE ACADEMY hosted an event DANCE FOR LIFE all proceeds are going to the IRISH CANCER SOCIETY AND OUR LADYS HOSPICE. Well it was an amazing day, the energy was electric and everyone willing embraced the fact we were raising money for such a great cause and were very generous. I was proud to be part of this event and day was run on a zero budget. So thanks to the Kilcock GAA for the venue all 8 judges, all the dancers who took part and got sponsorship and for all the donations of cups, trophies and medals. We had many individual sponsors who donated items for our coffee shop and raffle prizes and of course a huge thanks to everyone who helped on the day and made it all happen.
