In reply to: Major Monaco (who thinks it is a bad idea) 's message, "Ads on Cop Cars" on 12:37:12 11/12/02 Tue

...about the idea. I have to agree with the professors who say it will challenge the police image. On the other hand, this is not a new idea.

Somewhere in the vast archives of copcar dot com are some pictures of a PA police agency vehicle with billboard (or ad). There are other agencies in the same area doing it as well, I am told. Basically, the cars were purchased by a local business for the police department and the PD could use them as long as the ads stayed on them. The person who submitted those pictures said his department loved it. Free cars and it has never raised an eyebrow.

Though I think it's tacky, has anyone ever NOT ridden a bus or in a cab just because it was a rolling billboard? The public is just used to seeing ads on public vehicles so I'm sure they would get used to it on police cars.

What I want to know is how many advertisers are going to wince when their ad shows up on the 5 o'clock news in the latest police brutality video?

I remember when the San Diego Fire Department used to get flagged down when they drove lime yellow 78 Monacos. People thought they were taxi's. (NT)RJ01:57:26 11/15/02 Fri
