Subject: Beyond The Prairie....

Hi Ladies and Gents!

Well, in our house, we have not one, not two, but THREE televisions tuned in to the movie right now. Two VCRs running, too! heehee

Well, we are just 20 minutes in (and at a commercial break as I type) and HELLO.......we are travelling in a covered wagon? Would it have been all that difficult to replicate the black hack that the Wilders travelled in from Dakota to Missouri? What do y'all think about this???

(Just thought I'd get the ball rolling here! Can't wait to see what's next!) ;o)

Hi Kellie,
The movie is almost over. I don't like this one too much. We are now at the scene where Rose wanders into the cave. There doesn't seem to be much of this that is fact based.

Hmmm...it's not been near as *bad* as I had anticipated...guess I was all 'mentally prepared' for this one! LOL

I am thinking that Rose *was* lost in a cave or holed up there because of weather or *something*...wasn't one of the Cooley boys with her? My mind is racing through those cob-webbed file cabinets, trying to remember! LOL

Did anyone notice that the chimney of the white farmhouse was on the WRONG side of the house? ARGH! Even my husband caught that one! LOL!!!!!!

Even though it doesn't sound very strictly based on fact, I wish I was lucky enough to see this movie. I don't know when I will have a hope of seeing it over here in Australia! I must get on to one of the TV networks over here, and demand it until they are sick of me and comply!

... because I actually liked it. Yeah, I know, surprised the heck out of me, too (g). I just watched it as "The Totally Fictionalized Story of Romanzo and Tessie" and I was fine.

Do you think the movie was trying to tell us that perhaps we can blame everything we don't like about Rose on the fact that her brain was oxygen-deprived when she was lost in the cave, which, of course, was all her mother's fault because Laura made Rose run away in the first place.

"Oh how my mother made me suffer...."

Hi,
I suffered through the whole thing. Nancy, I liked what you wrote. It pretty much sums everything up. I had taped the movie thinking I would keep it as I did the first movie. Well, I guess I'm taping over it. This is so sad to see that it was far off from the facts. Surely they can't think they did right by this.

I ahve to admit that I kinda liked this movie too. Maybe because I wasn't expecting it to be too realistic. I have to admit that it didn't dawn on me that they should've been using a hack. I did notice that they weren't traveling with the Coolies though. Also, I thought that after Almanzo he had diptheria he walked with a limp the rest of his life. He seemed to walk fine in the movie. It may have been harder doing this one because they didn't have a little house book to base it on. When it started my husband said the name of they movie and I said it was part 2. He said"I missed the first part?" I told him it was on 2 years ago.
One thing that bugged me was in my copy of TV guide it had an ad that said starring Richard Thomas. What was he in for, maybe 5 minutes?(and when he was dying he didn't look too old)

Well I have only seen the first hour of the movie - which staying up till 10 was WAAAAYYYY beyond my bedtime. Anyway, the covered wagon at the beginning killed me, and other than that *prop* it only took 7 minutes before they were already adding stuff that wasn't true. Like Nancy I just looked at it as a story of pioneers moving from Dakota to Missouri and sat back and enjoyed the hour I watched. I am shocked to hear that they had the fireplace on the wrong side of the house - I was HOPING they may have actually filmed at Rocky Ridge - if not using the inside (wouldn't want all those camera's etc trapsing through) but at least shots of the outside! Heck - with the things they can do these days they could have superimposed the image into a background! Oh well - I can't wait to watch the rest anyway.

I could hardly wait to see what was posted today about the movie. You guys have been relatively tame! I guess after the last one, we were all prepared for the inaccuracies in this one. I watched it with my mom, step-dad, and husband. Throughout the whole movie, they kept asking me "Is that true?". Laura would have been shocked at the scene of them undressing when they decided to buy Rocky Ridge! It was just like the scene from the first movie by the chimney on their wedding day. UGH! This is 1894 people! Does the movie industry really think they have to throw in a hint of gratuitous sex in a movie based on the story of a children's writer's life in the late 1800's? I don't get why they think its necessary. The target audience is anyone interested in Laura. We're not morons.
O.K. I'm off my soapbox about the movie. I did tape it. However, I ran out of tape the last 10 min. I'm not that upset. I did enjoy it from an entertainment perspective. Some of the drama and really blatant stuff just got to me.

I remeber something else I told my husband. The women seemed to have a lot of clothes for back then. It seemed that they had a new outfit each day where in real life the wore the some one every day and maybe changed their apron. At the most they only had a few outfits and while traveling they probably wouldn'r have changed unless it was wash day. Also, they didn't show Rose getting all upset when she was asked about the $100 that was missing.

My mother made a comment about the amount of clothes too! I also noticed Laura didn't question Rose about the money.

I couldn't wait to check all your reactions to the film, this morning. Your comments are all very interesing and what I expected after the first film. I don't know when we'll get it over here (UK) hope it's not too long. I'm still looking forward to seeing it.
