Noni's ears prick up attentively and she can't help smiling a bit. "I could tell that at least two Korats around here weren't to be underestimated," she says, "by the felled tree, the splattered blood, and the loud commotion."
She listens as eagerly as a cub, almost hypnotized by the older black's words, all traces of anguish at her family's coldness fled like shadow before sunlight. And she does begin to feel it, as her awareness of what is there increases her perception of it. When he pauses, her eyes are a little clouded.
"I think I understand what you have said. But I do have a question. If everything has energy, couldn't a Korat particularly skilled in manipulating it draw upon the lifeblood of the elements, or..." a small shudder here, "of another living creature?" The second act seems to her a violation of rightness, but the possibility still occurs to her.
