Subject: isnt lacking back pressure a good thing that allows more free flow? (more)
In reply to: Ernest 's message, "Re: going to see what my car is like without a muffler..." on 17:11:38 06/25/02 Tue

I mean I'm aware that too much free flow can overheat and destroy an engine (such as if there was nothing attached to the exhaust ports on the side of the head), but in terms of just losing back pressure, is there more a midrange of it that is good for optimal performance? I got the impression when learning how turbochargers work and what wastegates do, that back pressure was a bad thing. Was I misunderstanding?

PS: was anyone aware that the OEM muffler on at least my kind of car (dunno about other e30's) was made by Ansa?
