lol ok counting was what made me THINK i did it in 13. the stopwatch showed 16.16. ill compensate for 5% next time. my car is in fact the 3 speed auto '84 318i WITHOUT overdrive (take one on the highway....for an hour....you start to notice the drone of the engine after awhile running constantly at 4 to 5K rpm at highway speeds of 70 and up). the spark plugs are in super condition, and although i had great results on a cold compression test a month or two ago (150 in all 4 cylinders), i'm about to go outside and do one with a warm engine if i can get my mom to volunteer to crank it.

i believe that due to my idling problem with as best i can tell a shot ICU (L-Jetronic), resulting in idling from 1500 to 2000 before driving, 2 to 3000 rpm after driving, that it has my timing advanced. my friend's 77 mustang had way off timing, and his idle was reduced to it's proper level, AND acceleration and the smoothness of the engine increased dramatically. maybe if i blow the just-shy-of 200 on a new ICU (unless i can find a used one!!! anybody?), i'll get the same result. Thanks, Vlad!

Daniel

PS: the fact that i wasnt really doing 60 mph when i stopped the timer at 16.16 does not encourage me. lol.
