Considering you only reached 60 mph and that the speedometer is optimistic, I'd say your engine is worn/out of spec seriously. Is the car an automatic (perhaps even 3 speed)?

The easiest thing to do is to check the timing (influences engine performance vastly) and the spark plugs/compression. My manual 84 318i did 0-60 in 10 seconds. It also had no oil creeping past the oil filling cap.

And you say you used counting as a test bench? LOL And don't forget to substract 5% for speedometer correction next time.
