Hey Petedad,

GREAT HEARING FROM YOU! We don't say this enough but,
THANK YOU for being moderator and operating this Forum!
Your doing a great job! THANKS A MILLION.

We found your Discovery Story interesting and great,
too!

We thought at first your area had an Underground
Railroad tunnel and station but, when you started
mentioning the Still downstairs we knew then and
there perhaps the owner was Bootlegging during the
Prohibition Era.

Wonder why they left the Still behind? Perhaps they
had to make a "quick get away"?

Wonder how much money they made making the illegal
moonshine?

Most of us like to read about history, and the area
we live in had two railroads. A local newspaper here
publishes a HISTORY STORY COLUMN about local, area and county history. In a couple of "OLD RAILROADS OF THE
AREA" histories they have published about some of the
different trains that operated. A funny thing about one
train during the Depression Era sometimes an extra Late
Freight Train would operate sometimes. Nobody could
prove it but, there was rumors that some frieght on this
train sometimes carried "extra milk and cream" for a late
run from town. Nobody from the sheriff or police offices
investigated rumors "was there possible whiskey shippments
on these trains? No! Couldn't be! Depression going on!
People lacked money! Most areas were 'Dry' and we don't
mean they were dusty areas. LOL.

Where's this Moonshine Still now? Hopefully in a local or area museum? What a great History Artifact to preserve.

Did this l982 Discovery get published in the newspapers? Anyone else do any discovering or digging in the area to
discover anything else?

A couple of 'discoveries' that happened around here not that long ago that created excitement:

county was digging a new road area and it was discovered
not far down OLD PLANKS from an Old Plank Stagecoach Road
that ran across a swamp area. They were saved for a museum.

Another was the discovery of a almost full skelton of a
Mastodon (a hairy dino) in a farmers field he was plowing.
He donated it to a museum.

(Mark): Upon hear this I told my grandparents they have some unfarmed property that they haven't farmed yet,
and perhaps it could be plowed up and see if we might have
a Mastodon hiding beneath, and I would be glad to take the
tractor and plow and go to work to "discover" if we did or not. If that farmer had one on his property, then perhaps
a brother or cousin Mastodon might me "undiscovered" yet
around here?

My grandpa laughed, and said, "not right now, Mark." My
dad told me too I, "had better take serious what grandpa said and not do any plowing projects on that area. If you
do Mark, you might find it hard to sitdown not only on a
tractor seat for awhile but, on any other transporation seating as well, and maybe for up to a week!"

(Mark): YIKES!

Well I have always liked that piece of land just like it
is. Drew thought my grandpa and dad might change their minds over time but, I haven't asked them and it's been
a few years, and if I do that Drew wants to be around when
I do ask them again. I wonder what for?

Got anymore NEAT STORIES to share Petedad?
