I find your account of discovering and underground tunnel in an old building interesting, it reminds me of a somewhat similar story.

A guy I kind of knew growing up (I knew who he was but we weren't really friends)bought a bar in a small rural community near where I grew up. The building had a bar in the front half and living quarters in the back.

Under the bar part of the building there was a full basement, but only a foundation under the back half, or so he and everyone else thought. As part of a renovation project he cut a hole in the floor under the living quarters and to his surprise discovered a full basement under the back half of the building too.

Curious, he got a light and a ladder and crawled down into the basement and found an old still. The still and equipment was heavily covered with dust from years of non use, but I guess it could easily be placed back in working order. It was like someone just walked away one day and left it. Someone did take the time to build a concrete wall between the front and back half of the building, and a ladder attached to the wall was discovered. In one of the bedrooms a trap door covered with carpet and linoleum was found, it is how they accessed the basement.

Discovering the still happened about 1982, and no one knew anything about it. Some long time residence remembered a family living there during the prohibition era, and that the Dad was always hauling crème can away in his truck.

I wonder what else is hidden out there.
