for the first part you are partly right. if you take a look onto human history, you'll see that all comes down to scientifical progres, not on the religious or spiritual values. we use knowledge accumulated centuries ago, and every day or so we have a new scientific wonder. so, it wasn't god that killed science, but science who, through ages, killed god.
