"You're welcome, Wessae. Alara, R'nos, and I were talking earlier at the Tables." Kalya turned her attention to Alara. "And thanks, Alara, for lending Shadow to Wessae for me." She grinned her thanks especially to Shadow, then turned to Wessae.

"Wonder what could be taking Channa so long? Maybe something's come up?" she asked. Ah well, Channa probably had something she needed to do. She was a little tense though, not because Channa hadn't arrived, but because of the Hatching, it would most likely start soon.

Kalya's eyes restlessly grazed over the eggs, their mottled shells seeming to glint in the light of the day, to put a sparkle in each of them. Of course, the queen egg, which her hopes still clung to, her hopes of changing Pern with a creature who would support her no matter what, that constant advocate, friend, and soul, looked like an amazing gold mass of light, as the light was caught and reflected off by the gold splotches on the mottled shell.
