G’rein looked very close to tears as the Weyrwoman approached them. But he had to stay calm for Grenith. And she was scared enough without him helping her along! Momentary resentment for the queen filled the two – how dare she criticise Grenith through her rider? “Shrineth’s time” indeed! But G’rein kept his mouth shut and the emotion washed away. They were both very raw from this experience.

“I…I don’t know how it happened, Weyrwoman!” G’rein admitted. “Admittedly she didn’t fly the last Fall, since her wing got pretty scraped up in the last one, but I didn’t think one miss would make a CLUTCH!” He shook his head, his face a lovely shade of red. “I’m sorry…we never meant to do this…I…I don’t know what to do…”

Grenith had had enough of this. Queenrider or no, this woman was upsetting G’rein, and she would have to stop it. I know what to do, G’rein. She told him, and the addressed her next remark to everyone in the grounds. And I would like candidates to stand. Just in case they do hatch. They will only be blues and green anyway – and the total of blue riders is down.

G’rein smiled at her. “She won’t mind candidates coming a little closer when she’s…used to all of this. But thankyou, Weyrwoman. And thankyou for letting her keep the eggs.”
