Subject: Don't walk too close...
In reply to: S'peer -- Scarth 's message, "I know you don't want to hear what I say;" on 11:12:51 11/17/05 Thu

Don't breathe so soft...

For a split second that seemed to last forever, Halzay
tightened her arms around her child, her face showing her fear. Though she'd never admit it, in her youger years at the Weyr, before the flight, when they lived so near to each other... she'd had a school-girl type crush on the bluerider.

She'd tried to push all this aside after the flight, of course, but being the typical weyrling, she'd watched him closely out of the corner of her eyes, made notes, had all her friends keep an eye out... the kind of thing a normal girl will do when she has a crush. So, naturally, she'd learned about his temper, and how he tensed up whenever he was angry.

Don't talk so sweet...

Halzay, though, could not let him see this, and so she re-assembleed herself and listened calmly and emotionlessly to his meager reply. Inside, she was frightened to death, and wished so vividly that she could see her friend's face, hear Elaini's smooth but commanding voice telling him that she was being a good person in allowing him a chance at all, Halzay's presence at the beach or no.

"I wish Elaini were here," she muttered softly, then addressed the situation at hand. "I never said you would. I just said we could all go together, because I happen to love watching my little girl at the beach." Of course, she could start on him about anything too deep, not with Sally's innocent ears around.

Don't sing...

"I want Mommy an Daddy a go," Sally said enthusiastically, as if it were only a matter of 'Which colour shovel should I take?' "I wanna show Daddy how good I swim, an Mommy gotta help wiv a sandy-Weyr!" Salzay laughed happily. She loved making sand models of the Weyr, and who was better at shaping the Bowl and Lower Caverns than her Mommy?

"Sal," Halzay said softly, putting her hild on the ground. "Why don't you go find Auntie 'Laini? Maybe she can help you get your swinsuit on and find your shovel."

"Ok!" Sally hugged her mother's leg in goodbye, seeing as she couldn't reach much higher, and then ran around the table and hugged S'peer as well. She laughed, ran off about five feet, then blew each of them a kiss. Still giggling like the bubbly little girl she was, she started t o leave the Lower Caverns.

"Lizzie," Halzay whispered, avoiding her talk with S'peer a bit more, "Keep an eye on her, ok? Make sure she doesn't get lost."

{Naturally. I love the Hatchling just as much as you do.} Lizzie didn't bother to hide her voice from S'peer, seeing as he was part of the conversation.

Don't lay oh so near...

Halzay nodded her thanks to her green, who felt the mental satisfaction rather than seeing the nod, and turned back to S'peer. Eyes steady and emotionless, she sighed before bringing up the subject again.

"Didn't want Sal around for now," she said gently, "It's obvious the conversation isn't going in a wya she should hear. Anyway, I said nothing about you hurting her. I'm not afraid you'll molest her or anything, because if you do not remember, I was a weyrling at our former Weyr, and you never really considered us any more than dirt."

She paused for a second, knowing she fully meant it. Why would he have flirted with a girl like her when there were much older women? He probably didn't even know she was alive. "Anyway, just think about this. You probably have a slight attachment to her already, seeing as you want to bond with her. What would you do if some strange rider you met only once asked to see her alone? It's not a question of--well, what happened before, but a question of would I let my daughter out with a man I hardly know."

She had no idea if, now that she'd mentioned it, they'd bring up the subject of the rape... but, at least she'd gotten her two-cents in.

Lizzi's aggrivation showed in her voice when she contacted Scarth again. {I think she knows he won't hurt Sally. She's more afraid of what could possibly happen if she's not there, ore or less. Actually, I think she's even more nervous about being alone with him now. Of course she did say she would, and one would think humans would realize when the other one isn't going to hurt them...} she sighed mentally. {Humans. I'll never understand them. Can't yours just say he didn't mean it, and mine forgive him? It happened four turns ago for crying out loud... Sometimes I wish they were dragons. Then, even if they didn't want to end up together, they could just move on and go into more flights. They wouldn't even have to remember they flew each other--not that I forgot you did,} she added the last part haistily, realizing that she was talking to the blue that flew her.

Please don't let me fall in love with you again...
