Shy compassion filled Elly�s eyes when Shadow told her about his family, and though Salty�s rather more bitter thought was: At least he HAD a family to live with for a bit., hers was far more gentle. Poor lad, loosing all his family like that, at once�

But then, was Elly ever nasty? Salty wracked his brain. Nope. Never. Not in living memory�

These thoughts all remained unspoken though, Elly thankful that her eyes weren�t too expressive. Shadow would just get embarrassed if he thought she was pitying him. A smile crossed her face at his reaction to her question. [I think Greythorn wouldn�t have been so upset of K�rea had told him what he planned. It might just have been the shock that made you all so amazed about his Impression.] It seemed perfectly natural to her that he might not feel ready to Impress � maybe dragon-riding had a few sore memories for him, after all.

[Me?] Elly shook her head vehemently, unaware that she could ever possibly influence him. [No! I�ve never wanted to have a dragon�Salty�s the one who�s always wanted to Impress, not me. I�m very claustrophobic � and when we came here on dragons, I discovered that it also includes going between as well!]
She coloured a little � how many people her age were scared of riding dragons and going between? For most it was a dream�but how many of them had been shut in the windowless ice-room below the house when they were naughty? Or in Elly�s case � when they didn�t speak properly?
