Ever vigilant to anything new in his surroundings, S’peer could almost see the deep thought that X’thrall was in. He was tense…why was that? Maybe he just didn’t like new people. Or maybe he didn’t trust S’peer? That was more likely, the bluerider mused. The 25-year-old’s reputation wasn’t exactly the most chaste of gossip, was it? And where G’rein was concerned, anyone who knew them even a little could have told X’thrall that they had been lovers once – at many different times.

G’rein was looking at X’thrall as well, worrying about the same thing. What if X’thrall didn’t trust him? He would never go with anyone behind his back while they were weyrmates – didn’t the bluerider know that? But then, G’rein’s reputation was as promiscuous as S’peer’s. He could rarely look around a hall in a Weyr and not see someone he had been in bed with at one time or another. X’thrall was his first real weyrmate…and G’rein wanted him to trust him.

Their conversation? What could they say? The could hardly go back to discussing each other’s taste in men or women, could they? G’rein was pretty sure he was X’thrall’s first lover (male, at least)…and he didn’t want to embarrass him. The greenrider froze for a moment. But S’peer’s unflappable conversational skills saved him.

“Maybe you can help us out! My drinking days are over, but I am of the opinion that Tillek wine is the best type.”

G’rein shook his head, acting for all the world as if this had been the topic of conversation all the time. “Benden has much better flavour! What do you think, X’thrall?”

((Well, if X’thrall were to want to see how they acted when he wasn’t around, and were to make some pretext…and then see how they behaved when he was at the other side of the hall and they thought he was answering the call of nature or something? Just an idea…but I have plans for all kinds of things that are harmless, but from a distance can look strange to the suspicious mind…))
