S’peer’s gaze softened as he looked at Salzay’s outrage at not being talked to. Making sure Halzay could hear him, he spoke to her. “Well, K’mir is a greenrider, and he’s a very bad man, who likes hurting people.” He told her seriously, trying not to listen to Halzay’s sobs. He didn’t like hearing them – they reminded him of how scared of him she was, and how she shouldn’t be.

“I’m here because I’m your daddy, and I’d like to know you. I want your mummy to not be scared of me any more.” Maybe if he could get Salzay to at least try and like him, things would be a little easier. But then, if she had been told her whole life how evil he was, she would probably hate him anyway.

To make your life harder,

Lilith thought carefully about what to say. One thing the queen prided herself on was her impartiality – she never liked to take sides in disputes. If she couldn’t help it she would still offer the other person’s point of view. She knew Scarth and S’peer – they were friends of Rinali’s son, W’ntyr, and she knew how sorry S’peer was for his mistake. But she didn’t want to look as if she was too much on his side.

A queen’s work is never done. Elizabeth, you know as well as I do that dragons cannot lie. If Scarth says his rider is sorry, he is telling the truth. I think the only way to possibly resolve this is to be firm with your rider. She and the bluerider must talk together alone, with no distractions, and she must talk to him. If she wants, maybe a neutral party could be present – one who can reassure Halzay that she is protected, but who will not interfere with the talking. For this, I would suggest someone that is not related to Halzay or S’peer, but who they can trust. Ex-rider Martan comes to mind, or even a dragon such as myself. It is an unpleasant thing for a dragon to order her rider, I know, but this must be sorted out. Perhaps Ojeth’s rider could look after the child. Please, Elizabeth, I fear that the sanity of both these two riders depends upon them sorting it out.
