Halzay nodded after S’peer was finished, and sighed. “May Faranth be with them,” she said softly, “And I hope all that becomes true.” She knew Elaini—and knew Elaini had meant it when she said she’d be honest about the strange circumstances regarding the child. Again speaking softly, she said, “S’peer? Do… I mean, do you support Elaini in this, too, or only W’ntyr?” It was a petty matter, of course, but it meant a whole lot more to Halzay now than much else.

She watched silently as Atiyana showed up and started talking animatedly to her companion. She didn’t mind at all when the new rider interrupted, but at the mention of flights the small smile she’d had quickly melted into a blank face as she tried to hold back her mixed emotions. She felt a small shiver go down her spine. If someone actually wants to be his weyrmate, she tried to reason, then he’s gotten better. My forgiveness is justified. Somehow, this thought didn’t quite make Halzay feel better.

She nodded to the greenrider, trying to ignore the “oh” that meant, if Halzay wasn’t mistaken, that Atiyana knew exactly who she was. “Oh, it’s nothing. Please, sit down,” Halzay offered the chair in between S’peer and herself. Manners would never be forgotten as long as Halzay was around. “We were just discussing a few things. Congratulations on impression, and it’s nice to meet you.”

(Love,} Elizabeth said, tapping into her rider’s mind.

‘Yes, Lizzy?’

{I think you should say things straight out. He seems nervous.} Leave it to Lizzy to make matters simple; don’t even mention Scarth suggesting it, in case he doesn’t want Hally to know they were talking about them. Tell her to do it. While she has time…

Halzay gave a mental sigh to her dragon, and turned her attention to S’peer. “I want to go back to our original subject for a moment, if you don’t mind. Yes, I am very protective of Salzay, so if you don’t mind I’d like to accompany you while she’s with you. This has nothing to do with you… I’m just a mom, y’know.” She gave a small smile; not a true one, those were only for Salzay, but enough to show she meant it. “Anyway, anytime the three of us have free time, you’re welcome to drop in and see her. I’m not going to try and stop you… in fact, I’d rather you do. Now that she knows you, I can’t take you out of her life. So, I’m giving you one more chance, okay? As long as you don’t cause any problems for her—and I’m not trying to insinuate that you will—you’re fine.” She paused, letting her little mini-speech set in. Faranth, she hated to monologue. Then again, she was just glad she was able to get it all out without sounding like she was accusing him! “Okay? Just wanted to clear all that up…” She turned to Atiyana. “Sorry you had to sit through that, just wanted to make myself clear.”

Elizabeth sighed, and decided to talk to Scarth again. {Think that helped at all, or did I prompt my rider for nothing?}
