I was always too embarrassed to ask. I wish I had a system where I could have done something like set out the hairbrush in a certain place and that would be the signal to my mom that I need a spanking. I would have wanted it to be something like 70% as bad as a real punishment. Still bare, still with the rush, enough to sting and cry and be cathartic.
