It's an interesting question. It could be a very easy one to answer for parents who already spank. Just tell Linda they like her ambition, and that they will help her as she has asked to be helped. Curfew's an hour earlier, they will monitor her carefully, and a missed curfew will be punished. What more needs to be said?

For me, personally, I don't spank any child in my family or extended family. I would tell anyone asking me that I would like to be of help in them doing better on their final exams, but spanking is not an appropriate activity for us to engage in. Instead, I would be there for moral support, or to help in any way that is appropriate. She would report to me if she misses her curfew, we would talk about the reason for it, and by talking, the issue would be addressed. She must be a responsible person, and it starts by doing things the right way without the threat of punishment.

Brett,

Are you saying that a 17 year old girl who is still in high school is too old for any parental punishments?

Not everyone is the same. In most cases, I think at that age it is passed time to start treating a girl as an adult. If she has some kind of behavioral problem, it should be addressed professionally. Apparently, previous punishments were not the solution.

In the case you presented here, the 17-yr-old is asking for discipline, which is something a rational adult seeks out either as a sexual desire, or possibly a non-sexual need like external motivation or a catharsis or stress release. That's not something I would provide as a parent, but it might work for other parents and their offspring.
