 Since my father works as a chef, he always had and has solid leather straps at home for sharpening his knives. They're 15 inches long, 2 inches wide and almost half an inch thick, even though there's a new one about once a year. As long as I got my lashes over my dad's lap, he used his sharpening straps for that.

As the strap was relatively short, the blows were applied individually to the single bumcheeks and not across both. And so it sometimes happened that when my bottom bucked back and forth and my legs kicked, blows to the right buttock hit the outside of my bottom or hip and blows to the left cheek hit the inner thigh or even the cleft of my behind. I don't remember these blows hurting particularly badly, but the marks often lasted longer than directly on the butt.
