I agree with you regarding your physics being more complicated than what is presented. I oversimplify possibly to keep the 'basic physics' for all to understand. The basics are still longer or lighter are the only 2 dimensions that will make a club swing faster. As you say a shortened 3 iron will be lighter so it will swing faster than the same length 7 iron head due to the lighter weight of the 3 iron head. For more complicated physics see:

or

You make no mention of how unbalanced the swingweight of the set will be. I see a range that will be lighter than typical ladies swingweights to a heavy mens S/W for the shorter irons. Your 3 iron has gone from a typical standard of D2 to approx. C0 with 2" removed. A total loss of clubhead feel IMO. To swing it harder or faster as you suggest because it is now shorter and supposedly more controllable may give you very erratic results due to a total loss of clubhead feel.

I am going to gamble or suggest that these 'same length' iron heads have modified weights to keep the feel or S/W similar. Swinging the clubs the way you mention will require drastic timing changes throughout the set. Not for me thanks but if you give it a whirl your way I'd like to know your thoughts on the playability ..... regards .... trencher

BTW - I'll be away for a dew days so replies may be delayed.
