Many others and myself have had the luxury of trying many shafts and it is amazing how the shaft does affect the way a club feels/performs. The saying that states 'the shaft is the engine of the golf club' is not overstated.

We all like/need something that suits our swingspeed and the individual way we load the shafts for swings of the same speed.

A preference for my slow swing speed is a softer R flex steel shaft, lighter in weight, with a low kickpoint to assist my dominant low trajectory. I like the Royal Precisions and/or a True Temper Dynalite Gold with low kickpoints. Due to this method stressing hands ahead I have found the flight lower than my old CG method. Maintaining the angle and 'hands ahead' delofts the face. I like the lighter shafts because it helps keep the total club weight down when using grips that are non-tapered and weigh slightly more than traditional CG grips.

I like longer shafts due to my 10 finger grip. Tom Sanders of BGG does not feel they are necessary. I don't feel I lose a lot of control with an added 1-1.5 inches. Now I hit my 9 iron nearly as far as a standard length 7 iron. Higher and softer shots that climb over the front bunkers never hurt Jack Nicklaus :-) Note this is a preference based on the lower ball flights I achieve with SA. Your mileage may vary. Longer shafts also achieve a club that effectively plays with a more upright lie angle. Many NGCI's have claimed that most need 2-4° upright. Again a dynamic lie test is the true test and your mileage may vary.
