Subject: Land is our curse and our paradise!!!!!!

Again I see a discussion pondering over why we as Papua New Guineans let so many things go. We are tricked right and left, oftentimes by our own people. We are outcompeted by the rest of the world. Some would say outmaneuvered. We
let corruption (keep your nose out of this BW!) take over our country and basically tolerate it. None of the big street protests that occurred in the Philippines, and we even tolerate losing about 2/3rds of our salary (due to kina collapse) and again, no riots and hardly any protesting.

Why?

I heard a thesis on this once, and the answer is "land". Landless people are outcompeting us globally. Landowners such as ourselves have a big buffer. Land buffers all the hardships. Land buffers our dependency on government, on education, on everything. So when those institutions collapse through corruption or otherwise fall short, that buffer of ours prevents most of us from getting really angry, or motivated enough to do anything about it. So we sit, peacefully and observantly looking at the collapse all around us in PNG and do nothing... because we have land.

Land is our paradise and our curse.

The only way to solve the problem is to lose our land. Will we willingly do that? Did anyone in the world willingly lose their land?

Thank you.
