I hate that a split would give Vermont the AE title simply because they played 2 fewer conference games....stuff like this always seems to against Maine for some reason.....on the other hand, you are right. The BIG games are next weekend in Burlington. The good thing for both teams is that they will not face each other in the first round which most likely means neither team will have to face AE's most dominant pitchers this season in Dixon and Collar.

Technically speaking, a split gives UVM the title by winning percentage. But, let's say that hypothetically UVM made up the two games with NU and LOST them both...UVM and Maine would have identical 17-7 records. Who wins the tiebreaker? It's not head-to-head, as it'd be a 2-2 split. Someone with time want to work on the next step?

In the event if there ever was a tie between Maine and Vermont in conference play, and they split their head to head match ups, I would think you would then go to the overall records for the tie breaker. This would mean whomever had the best PERCENTAGE overall record, would win the conference title.

I still believe it is an injustice, for not all teams to play the 24 conference schedule. This only means that any conference title..is tainted. That is truly too bad...

Ok, so I believe the *hypothetical* tiebreaker would go like this...

-Maine vs. Vermont: split, 2-2
-Both teams vs. Stony Brook (next highest team): both 3-1
-Both teams vs. Northeastern: Maine 3-1, UVM 2-2 (remember the condition of this hypothetical).

So, in theory, if Maine and UVM were to split this weekend, Maine could make a mathematical case for getting jobbed out of the #1 seed. That would be a scenario where it would be the right thing to do to make up those 2 games (or, at the very least, the first one if UVM were to win). However, I would argue that if UVM, say, went 3-1 this weekend, there's nothing tainted about their league title...24 games or not. They'd have 18 wins, a feat unmatchable by anyone.

Or...they could just hurry up and play this Vermont/Maine series and decide this stuff on the field!
