Yes, it's so. Bathing in group much decreased embarrassment for boys. The second side, all know that boys, before certain age, can't or don't want (it's the same here) to bath themselves qualitatively enough and need in help. And older girls did it in role older sister/younger brother.
I think so was in all pioneer camps in USSR and it was right.
Dim, are you agree with me? How old were you when your mother trust you to bath yourself independently? My younger brothers were bathed completely by mom or me until their 12, although, they had no big problems when I washed their heads (they both were longhair in their teen) and backs. I was really as "second mom" for them
