*D;tir hands T'yin some riding straps and wherhide jackeets, pants, and boots for each rider.* "If you could pass those out to the weyrlings I'd appreciate it T'yin." *Then he turned to the weyrlings and spoke slowly and clearly.* "What you are recieving now are very important pieces of clothing and tack. The Wherhide jacket and other clothing items *he holds his own up* Are protective against the harsh wind you will experience while flying as well as sometimes keep Thread off of your body a tad longer. Wear them whenever you can and ALWAYS wear them during Threadfall." *He emphasizes this and puts his own jacket on before continuing.* "Now, on to the riding straps. Thes are the things that hold you onto your dragon, without them you can just as easily fall out! So, obviously you must know how to put them properly on. When placing them on your dragon make sure they are not too tight as this is painful to the dragon, or too loose as you can either fall out or the straps will wiggle and rub against your dragons hide, causing pain. Talk with your dragon, ask them if it feels uncomfortable, that is the best way to find out if you need to loosen or tighten. Wehn correct, the straps will feel almost comfortable to your lifemate." *D'tir takes a set of straps and carefully fastens them upon Kuvoth, about where the neck meets the body. He asks Kuvoth if it feels alright, is scolded for putting them on too tight and so loosens them. He asks again, and Kuvoth assures they are comfortable.* "And that's how you do it! Now I'll have you try that in a second, but first I must remind you that riding straps, like your dragons, must be cared for... Oiling once a week or more is a good idea as dry riding straps can snap and can send you tumbling off while flying! So, please oil your gear folks." *he pauses and after assuring himself that all the knowledge has sunk in he continues on* After you have the straps on well, you should mount your dragon... ask them to bend a knee and then pull yourself up. Pull your legs through the straps and fasten yourself in. Just like when putting them on, you want to make sure you are secure but not stuck. Being able to bend your knees and lean left and right is good, but being able to turn around or make drastic movements... not so good." *he pauses again and mounts Kuvoth slowly, the Brown making an elaborate bending of the knee. Then pulling himself into the straps he tightens them and sits upon the back of the brown, calling to the weyrlings below. "Go ahead and try now folks! If you need help... watch as T'yin demonstrates what I just did again and then try agian yourself!" *Kuvoth bugles and the first stage of training... has begun!*
