Maybe Lanier could get the players- and that's a big maybe- but I doubt that he's as capable of a bench coach as Van Breda Kolff, and I doubt that he would have led last year's Bonaventure team to an over .500 record, or done as well as they have this year against the schedule they've played. I'm quite certain he would not.

It's easy to second guess Van Breda Kolff and praise Lanier when the latter had a considerably easier job to do. Lanier inherited an NCAA team with a good amount of talent. Van Breda Kolff inherited an NIT team that had lost their one legitimate post presence and one of the better centers in the A-10 in Van Paasen as well as Kevin Houston, who was scoring 20 a game. Lanier had the table set for him in many ways. Archbold, Karangwa, Mitchell, Miller, and others were already in the program. The pieces were in place when he got there.

I'd say Lanier has done a pretty good recruiting job, but it's definitely making a big assumption to think that he could bring in players who would have had the same impact in the A-10. Haddix has been terrific, Jordan good, and Jackson a disappointment from what I can gather. But recruiting against Atlantic 10 teams is another can of worms, as well as competing against them.
